Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize a bar-code reader. SOLUTION: The scanning module is formed as a thin and flat module of low electric power consumption by reducing its size and weight. The reverse reflective optical scanning module includes a light source attached to a substrate of the scanning module and at least one reflection mirror for reflecting and reorienting the light beam for scanning along an optical path existing on at least a portion atop the module. The scanning beam is longer than the length in the side part of the module to be passed with the scanning beam during the course of heading toward a target. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scan module which is used for the purpose of requiring a compact reader. SOLUTION: A non-retroreflective compact scan module in an electro-optical reader includes a laser light source, a photosensor, and an electromagnetic coil which are mounted at one surface of a printed circuit board. The laser emits a laser beam perpendicular to the board and is redirected to an oscillatable sac mirror, which is magnetically centered to a rest position, when the coil is de-energized.

SOLUTION: The non-retroreflective compact scanning module of an electro- optic reader includes a laser beam source attached to one surface of a printed circuit board, a photosensor and a electromagnetic coil. The laser emits the laser beam perpendicularly to the circuit board and when the coil is degaussed, the laser beam is directed again to the oscillatable scanning mirror which magnetically comes to a central position of rest.
Abstract:
An optical scanner (30) has a scanner component mounted to a leaf spring (34) for oscillatory motion about an axis. An electromagnetic coil (58) and permanent magnet (56) cause a force to be applied to the scanner component away from a central, neutral position. Bending of the leaf spring provides a restoring force biasing the scanner component back towards the neutral position.
Abstract:
A portable scanning head emits and receives light from a light-emitting diode (10) to read symbols, such as bar-code symbols. The optics (12,18) within the scanner are operative for focusing a light beam (11) and the view of a light sensor (17) in different planes (13,22) exteriorly of a scanner housing. Imaging means are provided in the unit for imaging a viewing window. The viewing window has an area smaller than that of the scan spot. The system can employ an LED (10) as a light source and tolerate the relatively large-sized (on the order of millimeters) scan spot without sacrificing reading performance since the photodiode (17) "sees" only that portion of the scan spot visible through the viewing window.
