    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a film, prominent in both of reeling style and anti-scraping property, by a method wherein the ratio of the average grain size of inert inorganic particles contained in a polyester film to the thickness of a polymer layer, containing no inert inorganic particle substantially, is limited within a specified range while the volume of effective spaces, produced by the projections on the surface of the film, is also limited in a specified range. CONSTITUTION:A polymer layer, having the thickness of 0.01C-0.5C (unit is mum) and containing no inert inorganic particles substantially, is provided on at least one side of a film having the principal constituent of a composite consisting of polyester and inert inorganic particles having an average grain size C (mum). In this case, the volume of effective spaces, produced by projections on said surface, it limited within the range of 1X10 -5X10 . According to this method, the shock absorbing capacity of the projections, existing on the surface of the film, may be improved. Accordingly, the film, prominent both in the reeling style as well as in the anti-scraping property thereof, may be obtained.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve a running durability for a repeated usage, improve slitting characteristics in a manufacturing process and realize high picture quality by a method wherein a prescribed contact of spherical silica particles having prescribed characteristics are contained. CONSTITUTION:A film contains 0.005-5.0wt.% of spherical silica particles which have volume average particle diameters of 0.1-2.0mum whose relative standard deviation defined by formula I is 0.3-1.5 and whose particle size distribution curve shows a one-peak distribution when the grade widths H (mum) of the particle diameters are expressed by formula II. The surface orientation index F and DELTAN of the silica particle satisfy formulae III simultaneously. In the formula I, Di denotes an area-circle equivalent diameter (mum) which is obtained from the projection area of each particle and DN denotes a numerical averageof area-circle equivalent diameters [SIGMAi1-nDi)/n] (mum) and (n) denotes the number of measured particles. In the formula II, the right side shows an integer which is obtained by cutting off the decimal part of a value obtained as the square root of (n).     Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a polyester film having the extremely small quantity of an oligomer deposited even at the time of not only immediately after the manufacture of a magnetic tape but also after conservation for a prolonged term under high humidity at a high temperature by using a biaxially oriented polyester film having specified relationship among the difference of the MD refractive index and TD refractive index of the film, a surface orientation coefficient, a mean refractive index and a polymer crystallization index. CONSTITUTION:A film is manufactured by controlling a polyester crystalline grain diameter Sc, crystalline facial orientation index Xi and n of an obtainable biaxially oriented polyester film so that a formula is satisfied by those. If the film is less than 5 of the formula, this means that the above parameters Sc, Xi, n of the film do not satisfy the formula. As the film is manufactured by controlling those parameters Sc, Xi, n, the film which has very few whiskers and is extremely favorable in slitting properties can be obtained stably.
