A polyester film comprising a coating layer which comprises organic fine particles and organic compounds on one-side surface of the polyester film, the weight ratio of the organic fine particles to the organic compounds in the coating is 1:0.2 to 1:5.0, the diameters of surface protrusions on the coating surface are 20 to 60 nm, the number of surface protrusions on the surface of the coating layer is 3 million to 100 million per square millimeter, and the surface roughness Ra of the coating surface is 0.5 to 1.9 nm, is suitable as a base film of a recording medium having excellent image quality and excellent durability without shaving an MR head.
Abstract:
A biaxially oriented film and a laminated film contain organic particles at a content of 0.001 to 20% by weight. The strength when deformed by 10% (S10) of the organic particles is in the range of 3 to 30 kgf/mm and the thermal decomposition temperature for causing 10% loss in weight thereof is not lower than 350 DEG C. The weight average diameter thereof is in the range of 0.005 to 5 mu m. The film is particularly useful as a base film of a magnetic tape.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of reproducing a video recorded image very fast from a video recorded video tape and further to provide a method capable of performing work for collectively storing video recorded contents of a large amount of video recorded video tapes in one magnetic tape in a short period of time. SOLUTION: In a method for reproducing a video tape using a helical scanning type video tape recorder, a MR (magnetic resistance) head is used as a reproducing head, a video tape is made to run at a speed n-fold as fast as a speed in a video recording mode in reproducing the video tape, and the reproducing head is made to run on a recording track of the video tape by making the running speed of the reproducing head n-fold as fast as a recording head speed in the video recording mode. By recording the video tape video recorded images reproduced by this method on a magnetic video tape of higher recording density than the video tape, video recorded images of a plurality of video tapes are collectively stored in one magnetic tape.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester film for a magnetic recording medium which is preferable to manufacture a digital video tape whose drop-out number is small. SOLUTION: A polyester film comprises 3-90 millions/mm2 of minute surface projections having a height of 10-50 nm provided on one side (A) of the polyester film, wherein the surface projections having a height of 50-120 nm in presence of the surface (A) of the polyester film have 40 thousands/mm2 or less and the surface defects having a height above 120 nm have 400/100 cm2 or less. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base film suitable for manufacturing a digital video tape in which the number of dropouts(DO) is small and superior durability in repeated traveling and the prevention of head cloggings at the time of reproduction is provided. SOLUTION: In a magnetic recording medium polyester film, aluminum silicate particles of 40-100 nm average particle diameter are contained, and the sRa value of one surface A is 2-4 nm and the sRz value thereon is 10-40 nm, and the surface A is provided with surface protrusions formed of the silicate particle, and the film containing fine particles and an organic compound is formed on the surface A.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a film roll having a good winding style even if a film is taken up at a high speed by forming the surface average roughness at a specific cut-off value on a surface provided with a magnetic layer, surface waving index and the number of coarse projections to specific values. SOLUTION: The film consisting essentially of polyester is so formed that cut-off value of the surface provided with at least the magnetic layer is 0.08 and at this time the surface average roughness Ra is =2.0 to , by which the polyester film for magnetic recording media is obtd. The roughness and surface waving of the film are confined within the prescribed ranges and the coarse projections are decreased as far as possible in such a manner, by which the polyester film having the output characteristics, traveling property and winding style necessary for the base film of the magnetic recording media of a digital recording type, etc., is obtd.
