    Abstract: A hollow polysulfonic fiber intended for a selectively transmissive membrane contains a hydrophilic polymer which is cross-linked into a water-insoluble form (for example polyvinylpyrrolidone) and is used in the form of a hydrogel containing water. A method for the production of a membrane module consists in spinning a hollow fiber by the use of a spinning solution containing a polysulfonic resin and a hydrophilic polymer, wetting the fiber above the saturated moisture content, and then, with the wet condition maintained, subjecting the fiber to the processes of module molding and radiation induced cross-linking, these processes being performed in either order.

    Abstract: A hydrophilic material comprising a copolymer composed of a monomer (A) having a polyalkylene oxide unit and a polymerizable carbon-carbon double bond in its molecule, a methacrylate or acrylate monomer (B) and another monomer (C) having a polymerizable carbon-carbon double bond in its molecule, which material is characterized by containing the monomer (C) in the proportion of 10 to 90 % by weight. The invention provides a hydrophilic material which is soluble, readily moldable, and excellent in antithrombotic and antifouling properties, and further provides an antithrombotic material and a semipermeable membrane. These materials can be appropriately used in the medical field and as water-absorbent and antifouling materials.

    Abstract: A blood purification column includes an adsorbent and a casing whose two ends are open ends, wherein the adsorbent is housed inside the casing, and wherein one of two casing ends is a blood inflow-side end portion and another is a blood outflow-side end portion, and wherein a filter is disposed at the blood inflow-side end portion and/or the blood outflow-side end portion of the casing, and wherein the filter satisfies (1)-(3): (1) an opening rate thereof is greater than or equal to 5% and less than or equal to 80%; (2) an equivalent diameter of an aperture thereof is greater than or equal to 1 µm and less than or equal to 5000 µm; (3) a ratio of the equivalent diameter of the aperture thereof to an average circle equivalent diameter of void spaces of the adsorbent is greater than or equal to 45%.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a filter built into a blood purification column, and aims to dramatically improve the removal of air that gets into the column and to prevent blood activation due to air remaining inside of the column and decreased absorption performance due to decreased contact surface between blood and an absorbent. This blood purification column has an absorbent and a casing, both ends of which are open ends, and the absorbent is housed inside of the casing. Of the two ends of the casing, one is the blood inflow end and the other is the blood outflow end. A filter is arranged on the blood inflow end and/or the blood outflow end of the casing, and this filter fulfils the following conditions. (1) The opening ratio of the filter is 5-80% (2) The equivalent diameter of the openings in the filter is 1-5000µm (3) The ratio of the equivalent diameter of the openings to the average circle equivalent diameter of the gaps in the absorbent is 45% or greater.

    Abstract: The invention provides a water vapor permeable membrane comprising a dense layer and a support layer that are adjacent to each other, wherein said dense layer contains voids with a void length of 0.1 µm or less and said layer has a thickness of 0.1 µm or more and 2 µm or less while in said support layer, void (a), i.e. the void with the largest length in the 2 µm thick region measured from the boundary between the dense layer and the support layer into the support layer, has a length of 0.3 µm or more and void (b), i.e. the void with the largest length in the region ranging between 2 µm and 4 µm measured from said boundary into the support layer, has a length of 0.5 µm or more, the length of said void (b) being larger than that of said void (a).
