Abstract: A tintable coating composition is provided. It includes (A)(1) hydrolysates of silane compounds containing at least one epoxy group and not less than two alkoxy groups which are directly bonded to Si atom in the molecule, and, if necessary, (2) compounds containing silanol and/or siloxane groups in the molecule, and/or epoxy compounds; (B) fine silica particles having an average diameter of from about 1 to about 100 m mu ; and (C) an aluminum chelate compound having the general formula AlXnY3-n, where X is OL (and L represents a lower alkyl group), Y represents one or more ligands produced from a compound selected from the group consisting of M1COCH2COM2 and M3COCH2COOM4 where all of M1, M2, M3 and M4 are lower alkyl groups, and wherein n is an integer comprising 0, 1 or 2. This invention also concerns an article, preferably plastic, coated with said coating composition and having a hard and tintable, scratch-resistant film, which is formed by heating and curing.

Abstract: Disclosed is an aqueous dispersion containing polysaccharide particulate gels, which is characterized by containing particulate gels substantially composed of a polysaccharide. The aqueous dispersion containing polysaccharide particulate gels is also characterized in that shapes of the particulate gels are maintained even after the particulate gels are heated for 30 minutes at 95°C in an aqueous medium. Namely, disclosed is an aqueous dispersion containing polysaccharide particulate gels, wherein the particulate gels are composed of a polysaccharide and have shapes that can be maintained even after 30-minute heating in an aqueous medium of 95°C.

Abstract: A composition excelling in safety that when locally administered to mammals, can be uniformly dispersed over the mucous tissue; and an ophthalmic solutio n containing the composition that can stabilize the tear film and can keep the tear film on the surface of the eyeball smoothed. There is provided an ophthalmic solution comprised of an agar-containing composition, the composition comprising as essential components a polysaccharide, especially agar, and water, wherein upon centrifugal separation with 40,000.times.g by means of a centrifugal separator, the amount of precipitated agar is less th an 65 wt.% based on the total amount of agar contained. It is found from result s of a corneal surface crook index change test that this ophthalmic solution h as an excellent tear film stabilizing activity. Therefore, this agar-containing ophthalmic solution exhibits an effect of sustaining the tear film on the surface of the eyeball in stable form over a prolonged period of time and th us can be used as an artificial tear fluid.

Abstract: An all solid type electrochromic display device (1) comprises first (4) and second (7 )conductive layers and sandwiched between them, at least an electrochromic layer (5) of tungsten oxide and a solid electrolyte layer (6). The tungsten oxide of the electrochromic layer (5) has an absorption spectrum, as measured by FT-IR, which meets the following formulae (A) and (B): wherein 1400, 1800, 2500, and 4000 and 3400 respectively represent the absorbance of 1400cm , 1800cm , 2500cm , 4000cm and 3400cm and A* represents the highest absorbance within a range from 1600cm to 1650cm . The electrochromic display device is produced by vacuum depositing the tungsten oxide electrochromic layer on another layer, introducing oxygen as a reaction gas at pressure of from 2 X 10 to 1 X 10 torr, at deposition rate of from 0.2 to 0.4nm/second and at a substrate surface temperature of from 20 DEG C to 180 DEG C.
