SOLUTION: In a fuel protection device making an angular cylindrical structure capable of housing a fuel body 5, the fuel protection vessel 15 is provided with a rectangular bottom wall part 16; a vessel body provided with a cross section T-shaped partition wall illustrating two fuel body housing chambers 18a1, 18a2 having two open sides respectively corresponding to the two sides of a rectangular parallelepiped, set on the bottom wall part 16 and supposing the bottom wall part as a base; and two sideward covers 22a1, 22a2 mounted so that the two open sides of each fuel body housing chamber 18a1 or the like are openably covered on the vessel body. The two angular cylindrical and hollow top open type housing spaces 18a1, 18a2 capable of housing the two fuel bodies 5 are formed by the vessel body and the sideward covers 22a1, 22a2.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To protect a fuel assembly without impairing the integrity of it even if high acceleration is generated in the longitudinal direction during the transportation of the fuel assembly by placing a gap between the top of the fuel assembly and the ceiling part of a fuel protection container or a top lid. SOLUTION: When a fuel protector 10 houses a mixed oxide(MOX) fuel assembly 1, a gap 14 with a length l1 is formed between the top of a handle 2a of an upper tie plate 2 and a top lid 13. In this case, the length l1 of the gap 14 is about 50 mm or shorter. If the MOX fuel assembly 1 undergoes a high and low-frequency acceleration of 1.0 G, for example, during the transportation of it, it begins slipping in the fuel protection container 10 and collides with the top lid 13. As the distance l1 of the gap 14 where slippage is allowable is limited to a low value of about 50 mm or shorter, nevertheless, collision energy is absorbed efficiently to prevent the acceleration from impairing the integrity of the MOX fuel assembly 1.

SOLUTION: In a transportation method for a BWR fuel assembly 1 in which a transportation separator is inserted and the assembly is contained in an inner vessel of a fuel protection vessel or a transportation vessel, the cross section shape of the inner vessel and the like 12 is made square shape, one side of the cross section of the assembly 1 and the inner vessel 12 is made inclined by about 45 degrees when the transportation vessel is laid horizontally and the assembly 1 is tightened to the inner vessel 12 from the above by using the tightening force of the lid 11 of the inner vessel 12.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To absorb difference in thickness between the respective components of a separator and a unit cell so as to improve the thickness and dimensional accuracy of a layer built fuel cell by forming an edge plate in a thin and long- sized one. CONSTITUTION:In a layer-built fuel cell, an edge plate 20 coming in contact with the outside edge section of each unit cell to form an outside frame for the flow passages of both an fuel gas and an oxidizer gas is formed out of a thin plate, then a flat section 20C is formed between the part 20a of the edge plate 20 coming in contact with an interconnector 6 and a part 20b thereof coming in contact with an electrolytic matrix, so that the edge plate 20 is formed in flexible structure, and by elasticity of the edge plate 20, the inside circumferential edge section thereof is accordingly stuck to the outside edge section of each unit cell when the cells are stacked upon one another. Thus differences in thickness between the respective parts of each unit cell caused when the fuel cell is manufactured can be absorbed by deformation of the edge plate so that the thicknesses of the parts is equalized, and the contact between the electrolytic matrix and the edge plate 20 can be kept in excellent condition to prevent the reaction gases from leaking out of the fuel cell.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To maintain a function for a long time by allowing an elastic plastic material to be subjected to plastic torsional deformation in accordance with the relatively displaced positions between members, and eliminating a phenomenon of constriction of said elastic plastic material. CONSTITUTION:An elastic plastic material 5 having a bore on its center part, is closely interposed in between a fixing board 3 and a fixing board 4 which have bores on their center parts respectively, and a pin 6 is inserted into the bore parts. Arms 7, 8 each having a bore near its end, are installed to the two fixing boards 3, 4 respectively. Accordingly, when relative displacement takes place between structure members 1, 2 due to vibration, since repeated plastic torsional deformation occurs in the elastic plastic material 5, the vibration energy can be stably absorbed for a long time.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain good sealing property, prevent the mixing of oxidizer gas and fuel gas, and prevent leakage by providing ring-shaped seal members inserted with insulators between multiple ring-shaped metal members between adjacent upper and lower separators of manifolds. CONSTITUTION:Ring-shaped seal members 14 are provided in oxidizer gas feed/ exhaust manifolds 4 and 5 and fuel gas feed/exhaust manifolds 6 and 7, ring- shaped metal members 16a and 16b of ring-shaped seal members 14 and adjacent separators 3 are welded together, thus both gases are completely sealed for feeding end exhausting, and oxidizer gas and fuel gas are not mixed. When respective members have approximate linear expansion coefficients at connection sections between ring-shaped metal members 16a and 16b and insulators 15 and welded sections between ring-shaped metal members 16a and 16b and separators 3, no distortion is generated by the difference in thermal expansion, and durability and the sealing property can be secured.
