Abstract: A cleaning apparatus (70) for cleaning, e.g. a photoreceptor belt (10), including an ultrasonic transducer (110) located under the photoreceptor belt (10) which provides vibrational energy to the surface to separate toner particles (87), from the surface of the belt (10). The transducer is positioned such that it is located directly opposite the cleaning nip (88) formed by a brush (80) with the belt. The transducer (110) reduces the adhesion of the toner (87) to the photoreceptor surface, thereby allowing the brush (80) to operate at reduced interference and voltage. The reduced interference and voltage results in toner (87) being collected only at the very tips (81) of the brush fibers (86) thus, allowing more effective detoning of the brush.

Abstract: An apparatus for efficient cleaning of the imaging surface. The primary cleaner is a rotating collection roll located directly opposite from and on the other side of the imaging surface from the ultrasonic cleaning assist device. The ultrasonic energy is used to remove the toner from the imaging surface enabling attraction toward the biased collection roll. The ultrasonic energy decreases the amount of residual toner remaining after transfer. The residual toner that is not cleaned from the surface by the collection roll is removed from the surface by the rotating biased conductive brush, which is the secondary cleaner. The collection roll is contactless in that it does not come into contact with the photoreceptor. In another embodiment of the invention, the primary cleaner and the secondary cleaner are collection rolls with ultrasonic cleaning assist devices directly under each collection roll. The entire cleaning system is contactless.

Abstract: An apparatus for cleaning an imaging member has a blade holder and a blade made of a polyurethane elastomer obtained by the reaction of a polytetramethylene ether glycol having the formula HOÄ(CH ) OÜnH where n is from 10 to 60, preferably 55 to 60, and from about 20 to about 95 parts preferably 22 to 26 parts, by weight per 100 parts by weight of said glycol of a diisocyanate selected from the group consisting of diphenylmethane diisocyanates, toluene diisocyanates, naphthalene diisocyanates and blends thereof and a sufficient amount of cross linking agents to provide a crosslinked elastomer, said cross linking agents comprising a mixture of from about 75% to 60% by weight of a diol having the formula HO(R ) OH where R is a straight or branched chain alkyl group having from 2 to 12 carbon atoms and from about 25% to 40% by weight of a triol having the formula: R'-C-Ä(OH)a(CH OH)bÜ where R'is H, CH or C H psi , a is 0 or 1, b is 2 or 3 and a + b = 3.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for moving residual toner from a photoconductive imaging surface. The invention includes the provision of an electrically conductive brush used for redistributing the residual toner images over the imaging surface so that the toner can be more effectively removed from the surface by the developer system. The brush is electrically biased by means of an A.C. voltage such that not only is the toner dislodged it is also picked up by the brush from one area of the photo conductive surface and dropped it on another area. By proper selection of the A.C. and D.C. voltages the conductive brush can be simultaneously used for redistribution and uniformly charging the photoreceptor surface.
