    Abstract: Method and apparatus for moving residual toner from a photoconductive imaging surface. The invention includes the provision of an electrically conductive brush used for redistributing the residual toner images over the imaging surface so that the toner can be more effectively removed from the surface by the developer system. The brush is electrically biased by means of an A.C. voltage such that not only is the toner dislodged it is also picked up by the brush from one area of the photo conductive surface and dropped it on another area. By proper selection of the A.C. and D.C. voltages the conductive brush can be simultaneously used for redistribution and uniformly charging the photoreceptor surface.

    Abstract: An ink jet printer that includes a printhead for ejecting ink droplets, an ink container for supplying ink to the printhead, and an ink level sensor for measuring the level of ink in the ink container, includes an ink level sensor activator. The ink level sensor activator causes the ink level sensor to measure the level of ink in the ink container after the printhead has ejected a predetermined quantity of ink. The ink level sensor activator records the quantity of ink ejected by the printhead onto the print medium by measuring to the number of droplets of ink ejected, and/or by determining the number of pixels in an image to be printed for which ink is to be ejected. If the quantity of ink ejected has a predetermined threshold, the ink level sensor measures the quantity of ink in the ink container.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer in which presence of an ink cartridge and ink therein can be detected. SOLUTION: The ink container (16) for use in the printer (8) comprises a housing (17) defining a chamber (42) for containing liquid ink (48) being supplied, and curved light guide elements (21, 22) provided on the outside of the wall (17A) of the housing (17) and having first curved reflectors (21A, 22B) and second curved reflectors (21B, 22A). When the residual quantity in a loaded ink cartridge (10) drops down to a specified level or below, the first curved reflectors (21A, 22B) reflect received light toward the second curved reflectors (21B, 22A) which reflect the received light to recede from the wall (17A) of the housing through a path parallel to that of the light received by the first curved reflectors (21A, 22B).

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the number of times of moving a printer carriage to be outside of a printing range for measuring a quantity of ink. SOLUTION: The ink jet printer 10 which includes a printing head for jetting ink droplets, ink containers 15, 16, 17 and 18 for supplying ink to the printing head, and an ink level sensor for measuring the ink level in the ink containers includes an ink level sensor activator. The ink level sensor activator records the quantity of ink jetted by the printing head to a printing medium by at least one of measuring the number of discharged ink droplets and determining the number of pixels in an image to be formed by jetting the ink. When the quantity of jetted ink has a predetermined threshold, the ink level sensor measures the quantity of ink in the ink containers.
