Abstract: An optical cross switch including an improved system to align optical components is described. The system utilizes a highly transmissive sensor (170) positioned in the optical path of an optical signal to determine the precise position of the optical signal. A feedback loop uses output from the highly transmissive sensor (170) to readjust elements (128,136) that maintain the optical signal in a desired position. The current system is particularly suitable for use in an optical cross switch.

Abstract: A multi-element-amorphous-silicon detector-array real-time imager and dosimeter for diagnostic or megavoltage X rays having megavoltage photons having a plurality of photodiodes (30) made of hydrogenated amorphous silicon arrayed in columns and rows upon a glass substrate (12). Each photodiode (30) is connected to a thin film field effect transistor (52) also located up- on the glass substrate (12). Upper and lower metal contacts (22, 38) are located below and above the photodiodes (30) to provide the photodiodes (30) with a reverse bias. The capacitance of each photodiode (30) when multiplied by the resistance of the field effect transistor (52) to which it is connected yields an RC time constant sufficiently small to allow real time imaging.

Abstract: A radiation imaging method and system for use in various imaging techniques includes a source (12) of spatially-separate radiation beams (13,14) at first and second wavelengths (L1,L2) respectively. The radiation beams pass through an object (18) to be imaged and are detected by a target array of sensors arranged in addressable lines (21). Each beam separately scans across each line of sensors to produce first and second outputs which are combined to produce a combined image signal that has increased contrast from that which would be produced by either the first or the second output alone. Preferably, the array is an amorphous silicon array and mean is provided for synchronously clocking sensor data from the array.

Abstract: A solid state radiation sensor array panel (10) comprising a thick deposited radiation detector layer (16) capable of generating electron-hole pairs in response to being irradiated, and a matrix array of transistors comprising source and drain electrode elements, a charge-transport layer (22), and a dielectric layer (34) disposed over one surface of the detector layer. Means are provided for establishing an electric field across the detector layer, which field is collapsible to establish a higher field in irradiated areas so as to establish a current path, between the source and drain electrode elements, through pixel areas of the charge-transport layer. The currents passing through pixel areas are passed to a readout circuit for processing the radiation image information.

The process can further include applying an ink composition to the textile having the layer of polydiallyldimethyl ammonium chloride cationic polymer layer and the layer of poly-4-styrene sulfonate anionic polymer, forming an image.

Abstract: A method of displaying an image in an electrophoretic display device includes charging each of the sets of differently colored particles to have a different charge through application of an electric field to the display fluid or the device, and then applying an electric field to selected ones of the multiplicity of reservoirs to effect movement of one or more of the differently colored sets of particles in the display fluid therein to display a desired color derived from among the sets of differently colored particles. The device may include at least one display layer, including a multiplicity of individual reservoirs containing a display fluid, between conductive substrates, at least one of which is transparent and thus may be a viewing side substrate, wherein the display fluid includes at least two sets of particles in a liquid medium, the at least two sets of particles exhibiting a different color.

Abstract: An image-sensing apparatus (10) of the type employing resolving and sensing means is provided with sensors (30) of selected size and geometry to allow approximation of desired response. The sensors may be incorporated into compact, self-contained image-resolving and-sensing apparatus having a transparent substrate (12) for resolving an incident image by refraction, diffraction or other suitable mechanism. The sensors may be located directly on a surface (14) of the substrate. Logic and select circuitry (20) may be integrally and simultaneously formed with the sensors. The size and geometry of the sensors may enable approximation to color inhibition and other effects to allow approximation to the spectral response of the human eye.
