    Abstract: A system for controlling elevator cars in a building having a plurality of floors includes a group controller for controlling operation of the elevator cars. The group controller predicts lobby single source traffic for determined periods. When the predicted traffic is below a certain limit, cars are assigned to a lobby hall call on demand after hall call registration. When the predicted traffic is above a certain limit, cars are assigned to the lobby hall call at intervals. Accordingly, car assignment is scheduled at those intervals. The schedule interval is varied based on predicted traffic and predicted round trip time of the cars. The cars are assigned to hall calls if they arrive within a schedule window. The schedule window comprises a lower and an upper tolerance that are selected around a scheduled time.

    Abstract: An intelligent destination elevator control system streamlines the efficiency and control of destination elevators. The system monitors a building's population and predicts elevator traffic conditions. The system may monitor attributes of the destination elevators. Based on the monitored data, the system may generate a data structure that renders time-tables and target elevator service quality parameters that may control the destination elevators. A time¬ table and target elevator service quality parameters may be selected to control destination elevators according to one or more customer selectable mode of operation parameters. The data structure may be processed to control UP and/or DOWN transportation capacities of the destination elevators while satisfying the one or more customer selectable mode of operation parameters. Some intelligent destination elevator control systems may control when elevator cars of a group service the floors of a building. Control of the elevator cars may be flexible to allow the system to increase or decrease traffic capacities of the elevator cars in accordance with anticipated traffic conditions.

    Abstract: An elevator system including supervisory system control for controlling a plurality of elevator cars to answer calls for elevator service. The supervisory system control, using information provided by the cars, groups the floors of a building, and service directions therefrom, into sets, each of which indicates those floors and service directions served by the same combination of in-service elevator cars. The supervisory system control periodically determines, for each set, the average number of floors and service directions therefrom, and the average number of calls, per in-service elevator car serving the set. The supervisory system control then assigns floors and service directions therefrom to the cars, using these averages, to substantially equally distribute the floors, and service directions therefrom, for each set, among the elevator cars serving the set, as well as to substantially equally distribute the calls for elevator service among the elevator cars.

    Abstract: A plural elevator system having a group controller 17 for controlling the joint response of a plurality of elevator cars 3,4 to the needs of a building, employs a microprocessor- based group controller 17 for providing up peak, down peak and other zone-controlled elevator functions. The group controller provides a variable interval between dispatching of elevator cars from the lobby during up peak, the dispatching interval being controlled by the approximate round trip time of an elevator being dispatched from the lobby in serving the car calls registered within it and returning to the lobby, or the average of the approximate round trip times for two or three most recently dispatched elevator cars. The dispatching interval is determined by the approximate round trip time divided by the number of elevator cars serving the up peak traffic. In addition, the dispatching interval can be further reduced in dependence upon the number of cars standing at the lobby, the reduction being greater in case the last car leaving the lobby is not more than half full than in the case when the last car leaving the lobby is more than half full.
