Abstract:
Abstract:
Abstract:
Abstract:
A viscous substance applying apparatus has a nozzle (21), for use, for example, in applying frit (36) to the sealing part (35) of a funnel (42) in manufacturing a cathode ray tube. The nozzle (21) has two valve elements (24, 26) disposed in a frit chamber (22) formed in a nozzle body. One of the valve elements (24), for shutting a frit outlet (32), is moved inward away from the frit outlet (32), applying suction to the frit contained in the frit chamber (22), at the start of the frit applying operation, while the other valve element (26) for shutting a frit inlet (31) is moved towards the frit inlet (31) in ending the frit applying operation.
Abstract:
An apparatus for applying a fluid such as an insecticide to grain or similar material that is carried by a conveyor (10). A flap device (13) which is formed from a sheet of resilient flexible material is pivotably mounted at one of its ends to a supporting structure (14) which is located above the conveyor (10), and the flap device (13) is positioned to contact and ride over the material (11) that is carried by the conveyor. A distributor (25) extends across the width of the flap device and includes a series of distribution channels (27) which open to a lower surface of the flap device. The fluid is delivered to the distributor (25) and is directed into the material (11) which, in being carried by the conveyor, is contacted by the flap device. A sensing device (23) is incorporated in the apparatus for detecting the degree of pivotal movement of the flap device (13) as it rides over the material (11) on the conveyor and, thus, for providing a measure of the quantity of material on the conveyor.
Abstract:
An adhesive dispensing apparatus for applying continuous, parallel adhesive beads onto the center portion of a substrate and intermittent, parallel adhesive beads on the outer portions of a substrate, particularly the plastic backing sheet of a disposable diaper. The apparatus includes a slot nozzle, divided into two center sections and two end sections, which is formed with flow passageways for each section having a coat hanger profile including a plurality of spaced, discharge orifices to form the parallel beads. A valving arrangement including solenoid-operated center dispensing valves for each center section of the nozzle, and solenoid-operated dispensing and recirculation valve pairs for each end section of the nozzle, controls the flow of adhesive to the nozzle. The center dispensing valves are continuously opened during an operating run to apply continuous adhesive beads on the center portion of the substrate, and the outer dispensing valves are opened and closed intermittently to form gaps on the substrate without adhesive where the leg holes of the diaper are cut. When the outer dispensing valves are closed, the recirculation valves are simultaneously opened to maintain constant adhesive flow to the center dispensing valves.
Abstract:
An adhesive application apparatus for automatically applying a strip of adhesive material of predefined shape accurately to the periphery of either the window opening in a motor vehicle or a pane of glass sized to cover that window opening, the apparatus comprising a pressurised supply means feeding adhesive material under pressure to a nozzle (16) of a dispensing means (14), said nozzle being carried upon a rigid framework (52) in such a fashion that the nozzle can be moved in any direction relative to the surface on which the strip of adhesive material is to be placed by means of DC servo drive motors (44, 74 and 84), and the tip of the nozzle can be accurately guided around said periphery by a nozzle angle adjustment means operated by a DC servo drive motor (92), the rate at which the adhesive material is supplied to the nozzle (16) and the rates of operation of all four of the DC servo motors (44, 74, 84 and 92) all being under the full control of a computer numerical control system.
Abstract:
This disclosure is concerned with independent fluid dispensing by a multi-slot cavity nozzle with opposing zig-zag fluid path baffle-diversion operation, generating a pair of adjacent line fluid depositions upon a web moving past the nozzle, and enabling the separate but simultaneous use of adhesives and other fluid media of different characteristics and in widely flexible multi-layer coating patterns including superposed, side-by-side, spaced and other multi-layer patterns.
Abstract:

Abstract:
Fire resistant articles comprising a normally combustible carrier element having applied thereto sodium silicate which is heat foamable to produce a further element capable of resisting the passage of fire and/or heat therethrough in the event the article is exposed to fire and/or heat. Certain compatible materials like fumed silica, calcium carbonate, low melting point glass fines and a bicarbonate compound may be added to improve the properties of the articles. In a typical embodiment the articles comprise corrugated container-wall structures, in which the sodium silicate layers (24, 27, 30) serve as the fire and/or heat barrier, laminating adhesive, and provides structural strength. A graphite felt layer (340) may be laminated to the outer surface of exterior liner board (336) thereby providing electrical shielding protection to the contents of a box manufactured from the structures. The corrugated boards are produced in an apparatus comprising fluting rollers (120, 122) of which the second one (122) is unheated and preferably water cooled. The apparatus further comprises devices (124, 136, 236) by which I sodium silicate is applied to the fluting medium (100), resp. to the liner boards (126, 216).
