Abstract:
A magnetic recording medium, comprising a magnetic coating provided on a nonmagnetizable substrate, wherein the magnetic coating comprises a magnetic pigment dispersed in a polymeric binder, said binder being a matrix of cured components which comprise a film-forming, unhindered, aromatic polyisocyanate crosslinking agent and a polymer component.
Abstract:
In the back coating containing carbon black, a nitrocellulose resin and a polyurethane resin, the present invention can improve remarkably dispersion stability with time of the coating by the use of a polyurethane resin satisfying a predetermined requirement, and can prevent the occurrence of flocculation of carbon black for more than 40 days.
Abstract:
A biaxially stretched polyester film having a modified surface with an excellent bondability, in which both the surface smoothness and the slip characteristic, which are contradictory to each other, are satisfactory. This biaxially stretched polyester film has a multiplicity of ultra-fine protrusions which are an integral part of the film and dyeable with osmic acid. The film is prepared by subjecting an undrawn or drawn polyester sheet to a plasma treatment and then drawing the treated sheet at least once. The film is valuable as a base for a magnetic recording medium.
Abstract:
A magnetic recording medium comprising a magnetic layer provided on one side of a base film made from an aromatic polyamide or polyimide, wherein the number (H2) of coarse surface protrusions on the magnetic layer side and the number (H3) of coarse surface protrusions on the nonmagnetic layer side satisfy the following conditions: H2 /= 800 kg/mm , 0.5
Abstract:
A light-transmitting servo tracking type high recording density magnetic recording medium provided with a nonmagnetic supporting member and a magnetic layer, which magnetic recording medium is characterized by the fact that an undercoating layer containing an electrically conductive, inorganic, nonmagnetic substance is interposed between the nonmagnetic supporting member and the magnetic layer. The magnetic layer is less than about 1 mu m thick and has a light transmittance of at least 40 %.
Abstract:
A magnetic recording medium, such as a tape or a floppy disc, is made using a substrate of high modulus polybenzazole polymer film. Suitable films can be coagulated from anisotropic polybenzazole dopes. A continuous layer of magnetizable material is deposited upon the substrate at high temperature.
Abstract:
A coated magnetic recording medium includes a nonmagnetic support, a primer layer formed on the nonmagnetic support, and an upper magnetic layer formed on the primer layer. The primer layer and the upper magnetic layer contain, as a binder, a polyurethane resin and a polyvinyl chloride base resin. The weight ratio of the polyurethane resin to the polyvinyl chloride base resin in the primer layer is from 70:30 to 90:10, and the weight ratio of the polyurethane resin to the polyvinyl chloride base resin in the upper magnetic layer is from 20:80 to 40:60. A method for producing the coated magnetic recording medium is also described.

Abstract:
An improved magnetic recording medium comprising a nonmagnetic support having opposed first and second major surfaces, a magnetic coating on said first major surface, and a backside coating on said second major surface. The backside coating comprises a block copolymer having the general formula: (A-B)n-Y, wherein: Y is a multifunctional coupling moiety; n is 2 to 15; A is a polymeric segment having a Tg of greater than about 70 DEG C; B is a polymeric segment having a Tg of less than about 25 DEG C, wherein B is incompatible with A.
