Abstract:
The invention relates to compounds and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, and to their medical use. Exemplary medical uses are the prevention and treatment of a bacterial infection, for example, a mycobacterial infection, such as a Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection, e.g., in a respiratory system and/or extrapulmonic. The invention further relates to a use of such compounds, pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof or prodrugs of the compounds as chemotherapeutic agents. Also, the invention relates to a use of such compounds, pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof or prodrugs of the compounds for inhibiting mycobacterial type VII secretion. The compounds have the following formula (Ia), wherein Q and X are, respectively, CH and C, CR2 and C, CH and N, CR2 and N, or N and C; R1 is hydrogen, halide or optionally substituted linear or branched alkoxy having 1 or 2 carbon atoms; R2 is independently selected from hydrogen, halide or optionally substituted linear or branched alkoxy having 1 or 2 carbon atoms, and R3 is optionally substituted linear or branched alkoxy having 1-6 carbon atoms, haloalkyl having 1-6 carbon atoms, n-propyl, 2-propenyl, 2-propynyl, or n-pentyl, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of the compound, for use in the prevention or treatment of a bacterial infection.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a headphone for use with an audio or mobile communication device, comprising at least one earbud, a microphone, and a wire. The headphone further comprises a stiffening mechanism, which is constructed to be arranged in an actuated state, in which the stiffening mechanism has a first bending stiffness and in which the stiffening mechanism is in a stiff configuration, and in a relaxed state, in which the stiffening mechanism has a second bending stiffness and in which the stiffening mechanism is in a free-hanging configuration. The first bending stiffness is larger than the second bending stiffness. The invention further relates to a method for communicating by means of a headphone, which comprises the steps of arranging, at the onset of communication, a stiffening mechanism of the headphone in an actuated state, in order to position a microphone of the headphone in front of a mouth of the user, and arranging, at the end of communication, the stiffening mechanism in a relaxed state, in order to freely suspend the microphone.
Abstract:
An imaging system (100) comprises a multimode waveguide (Wm) configured to receive input light (Li) from a light source (20) into its proximal side (13p) and output a corresponding speckle pattern (Pn) based on the input light (Li) out of its distal side (13d) for illuminating a sample (S) to be imaged. A single -mode waveguide (Ws) is connected to the multimode waveguide (Wm) for coupling the input light (Li) from the light source (20) to the multimode waveguide (Wm). The multimode waveguide (Wm) has a relatively short length (Zm) and relatively high flexural rigidity (R) for maintaining a unique relation between the input characteristic (λ,Α) of the input light (Li) into the multimode waveguide (Wm) and a spatial distribution (Ixy) of the speckle pattern (Pn). The single-mode waveguide (Ws) may be relatively long and flexible (F) for allowing movement of the short rigid multimode waveguide (Wm).
Abstract:
A method for determining a characteristic of a feature in an object, the feature being disposed below a surface of the object is disclosed. The surface of the object is irradiated with a pulsed pump radiation beam so as to produce an acoustic wave in the object. The surface of the object is then irradiated with a measurement radiation beam. A portion of the measurement radiation beam scattered from the surface is received and a characteristic of the feature in the object is determined from at least a portion of the measurement radiation beam scattered from the surface within a measurement time period. A temporal intensity distribution of the pulsed pump radiation beam is selected such that in the measurement time period a signal to background ratio is greater than a signal to background ratio achieved using a single pulse of the pulsed pump radiation beam. The signal to background ratio is a ratio of: (a) signals generated at the surface by reflections of acoustic waves from the feature to (b) background signals generated at the surface by reflections of acoustic waves which have not reflected from the feature.
Abstract:
The invention relates to biomarkers and diagnostic methods for determining the presence and/or risk of cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) as well as to methods for screening for treatments for CAA.
Abstract:
Lensless imaging metrology using soft x-rays (EUV) radiation to reconstruct a three-dimensional product structure on the substrate. The coherent radiation is scattered by the structure and plural diffraction patterns are captured. Data describing the three-dimensional strucure are reconstructed using numerical phase retrieval algorithms based on the plural diffraction patterns corresponding to different wavelengths or to coherent radiation pulses with varying time delays.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to an apparatus (100) and method for controlling a plurality of simultaneously active optical traps (OT1,OT2,OT3). In one method, trapping beams (TB1,TB2,TB3) are provided and redirected for individually controlling a respective position (X,Y) of optical traps (OT1,OT2,OT3) formed by focusing of the redirected trapping beams in a sample volume (SV). Light (L11,L20) from the sample volume (SV) corresponding to the optical traps is received. A path of a detector beam (AB) is overlapped with one of the trapping beams (TB3), wherein the detector beam has a distinct wavelength (λA) from that of the overlapping trapping beam (TB3). In one channel, the light from the sample volume is filtered according to wavelength, and only the filtered light having the wavelength (λA) of the detector beam (AB) is measured.
