Abstract:
The invention provides isolated N-methyl-D- aspartate type 3B (NR3B) polypeptides, functional fragments and peptides, encoding nucleic acid molecules and polynucleotides, and specific antibodies. Also provided are excitatory glycine receptors, containing either NR3B or NR3A polypeptides. Further provided are methods for detecting excitatory glycine receptor ligands, agonists and antagonists. The invention also provides related diagnostic and therapeutic methods.
Abstract:
Flooring that utilizes sophisticated, self-stabilizing, woven face fabric using relatively heavy "carpet weight" nylon, polyester, PTT or other yarns on modern Jacquard computer controlled looms to produce flat-weave fabrics that are bonded to engineered backing structures. Urethane modified bitumen may be used as a backing layer, and an optional latex precoat may be used on the fabric layer, together with an optional antimicrobial in the precoat.
Abstract:
Compositions and methods of using the same for the treatment of diabetes and other disorders of glucose metabolism are provided. Compositions may include one or more of a bioavailable source of chromium and vanadium, and may be formulated as edible solids.
Abstract:
The present invention relates generally to design and evaluation of research and development, technology transfer, and learning-by-doing, and more particularly to the determination of production plans and the prediction of innovation. A preferred embodiment comprises a method for determining a production plan comprising the steps of: defining a plurality of production recipes such that each of said production recipes is a vector of n operations; selecting a current one of the production recipes; evaluating the current production recipe to determine its cost; modifying the current production recipe to create a trial production recipe (130); evaluating the trial production recipe to determine its cost (140, 150); and assigning the trial production recipe to the current production recipe if the cost of the trial production recipe is less than the cost of the current production recipe.
Abstract:
The invention provides a method of identifying nucleic acid molecules that contain cis acting nucleic acid elements. Also provided is a method of isolating nucleic acid binding factors. The invention also provides methods of identifying compounds that are cis acting nucleic acid element analogs, compounds that are nucleic acid binding factor analogs, compounds that selectively bind cis acting nucleic acid elements and compounds that selectively displace binding between a nucleic acid binding factor and a cis acting nucleic acid element or between nucleic acid binding factors. Also provided is a method of determining a binding state of a nucleic acid. Pluralities of isolated nucleic acid molecules containing cis acting nucleic acid elements, of isolated cis acting nucleic acid elements and of isolated nucleic acid binding factors are also provided. The invention further provides methods of treating pathological conditions using molecules of the invention to alter genetic activites of nucleic acids involved in pathological conditions.
Abstract:
The disclosure is directed to an apparatus for preventing needle pricks and for retaining and safely disposing of used needles, such as intravenous needles. The apparatus comprises a longitudinal body (12), having first and second ends (14 and 16), an entry and closure mechanism (20) on the first end and needle retention means and an aperture (22) on the second end of the longitudinal body. A pulling structure (18) passes through the interior and both ends of the longitudinal body. The pulling structure is attachable to a needle (26). The other end of the pulling structure may be attached to a syringe or blood-drawing device. A user pulls on the pulling structure to draw the needle into the longitudinal body after use. Needle retention means, such as ribs (52) and protuberances (62) prevent the needle from moving, once drawn into the longitudinal body. The entry and closure mechanism and needle retention means prevent the needle from exiting the longitudinal body after it becomes disposed within the longitudinal body. The longitudinal body, containing the needle within, can then be disposed of.
Abstract:
The present invention discloses a plasma extraction device for generating fixed, predetermined quantity of plasma and for dry-transport of obtained plasma for automated assay. Plasma extraction device includes a plasma extractor assembly comprising an absorbent probe that wicks a predetermined volume of a liquid sample from a liquid source, a separator that generates plasma from the wicked liquid sample, and an absorbent reservoir that stores fixed, predetermined quantity of the generated plasma for dry-transport and automated assay thereof.
Abstract:
A method to adjust operation of a network controller of a device is disclosed. The method may include receiving contextual data from a sensor communicatively coupled to the device. The method may also include analyzing the contextual data to determine the context of the device. The method may also include modifying the network controller operation based on the analyzed contextual data.
Abstract:
Articles of manufacture possessing corrosion resistance characteristics are described, in particular for use in the chlor-alkali and other industries. The articles are formed from a resin composition, e.g., a cyclic olefin composition, polymerized with a Group 8 olefin metathesis catalyst. In particular aspects, an electrolytic cell component, such as a cell cover for use in the electrolysis of brine, may be formed from the resin composition. Among other benefits, such articles provide improved corrosion resistance compared to articles molded from other resin compositions, such as Fiberglass reinforced polyesters and vinyl esters, and two-component dicyclopentadiene (DCPD) resins comprising molybdenum or tungsten pre-catalysts.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for interaction of satellite and Internet protocol features in content delivery systems are presented. Using such systems and methods, the delivery of some content to the same product by Satellite delivery, other content by IP delivery, and still other content by both Satellite and IP delivery can enhance the utility of both the content and the product for an end user and can further optimize the costs and quality of service associated with delivering the content. A method of providing content and data to a combined satellite and IP network receiver is presented, including broadcasting via satellite content and data to the receiver, and sending via an IP based communications network content and data to the receiver, where the content and data provided over the Satellite broadcast enables capabilities of the receiver needed to consume content received by IP delivery, and the content and data provided via IP delivery enables capabilities of the receiver needed to consume content received from the satellite broadcast.
