Abstract:
The present invention relates to a one-step process for preparing amido-carboxylic acid esters having the amide nitrogen positioned between two carbonyl carbons by reacting a carboxylic acid or carboxylic acid ester with a monohydric alcohol and either a lactam, amino-carboxylic acid or a polymeric amino-carboxylic acid. In this process, amidation, esterification, alcoholysis, and hydrolysis reactions occur simultaneously.
Abstract:
Disclosed is an essentially odorless water dissipatable or dispersible adhesive composition that is useful in forming paper articles and other products that can be recycled through repulping in both neutral and alkaline media. The water-dispersible adhesive composition is preferably a hot melt adhesive that is a low molecular weight, branched copolyester containing a sulfomonomer. The copolyester adhesive composition can be used neat or formulated and exhibits broad compatibility with a variety of adhesive additives, including non polar tackifiers.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a process for removing acetaldehyde from polyester which comprises the steps of: (a) transporting molten polyester to a vented, continuous screw conveyor having a polymer compression zone, (b) rotating the screw of said conveyor so as to compress and convey through the extruder the molten polymer for a time of less than 15 minutes and at a temperature of less than 300 DEG C, (c) simultaneously with step (b), flowing a purge agent into and out of said extruder to thereby remove volatile impurities and avoid appreciable build-up of acetaldehyde, and (d) conveying the devolatized polymer melt to a mold wherein an article of manufacture is formed.
Abstract:
This invention relates to an aqueous acrylic resin crosslinked with difunctional acrylated urethane oligomers which are used in nail polish compositions. The nail polish compositions exhibit quick dry time, excellent leveling, good water/detergent resistance, abrasion resistance and durability with good adhesion to nails for long-wear nail polish applications and yet are easily removed from the nail.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a photo-stabilized polymer blend comprising: (a) at least one polyethylene terephthalate-based (PET) copolymer comprising 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol, and (b) an ultraviolet absorber, at least one compound selected from the group consisting of cyclic imino esters.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a process for the preparation of 2,3-dihydrofurans from the corresponding isomeric 2,5-dihydrofurans wherein a feed mixture comprising a 2,5-dihydrofuran compound and an aldehyde selected from alkanals containing 2 to 5 carbon atoms and alkenals containing 3 or 4 carbon atoms; an epoxide selected from 1,2-epoxyalkanes containing 2 to 5 carbon atoms and 3,4-epoxy-1-butene; carbon monoxide; or a mixture of 2 or more of such aldehydes, epoxides and carbon monoxide is contacted with a supported, palladium or platinum catalyst to effect the isomerization of 2,5-dihydrofurans to 2,3-dihydrofurans.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method and apparatus for forming diagonal splices in flexible, fusible material (16, 18) and the material spliced accordingly. The splice is formed by overlapping the material, tensioning the material at the area to be spliced, and heating a strip of the material under tension to its fusion temperature, thereby fusing and separating the material at the strip. The splice is nearly undetectable to the untrained eye.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a process for the preparation of cyclopropanecarboxylic acid by the non-catalytic, oxidation of cyclopropanecarboxaldehyde using molecular oxygen as the oxidant. Also disclosed are processes for the preparation of amides, esters and acid chlorides from cyclopropanecarboxylic acid.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a biaxially stretched, heat-set film having improved resistance to thermal shrinkage and process for producing such film, the film comprising a polyester having repeat units from at least 90 mol % terephthalic acid and at least 90 mol % 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol wherein the dimensions following biaxial stretching are between 2.0 and 2.5 times the dimensions prior to stretching.
Abstract:
This invention relates to thermosetting powder coatings formulated with a polyisocyanate and a blend of a hydroxylated polyester resin having a low hydroxyl number and a hydroxylated resin based on tris(hydroxyethyl)isocyanurate having a high hydroxyl number. Powder coatings from this blend exhibit high hardness and good caking stability.
