    Abstract: A wireless device configured for discontinuous reception (DRX) may and operating in a system that uses directional beamforming may identify a random access time period after awaking from a DRX sleep mode. The device may then transmit a scheduling request during the random access time period. In some cases, the device may transmit the scheduling request using frequency resources also associated with random access transmissions. In other cases, the device may utilize resources that are not associated with random access. The determination of which frequency resources are used may depend on the length of the DRX. That is, if a device has been in a sleep mode for a long time, it may use random access frequency resources that are associated with a more robust transmission configuration.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A base station may transmit a subframe that includes physical broadcast channel (PBCH) signals interspersed within beam reference signals, where the subframe may be a synchronization subframe including one or more synchronization signals. In some cases, the beam reference signals from different antenna ports may be code division multiplexed or frequency division multiplexed over multiple frequency tones. A user equipment (UE) may use the beam reference signals to generate channel estimates for the PBCH signals. In some cases, orthogonal cover codes for code division multiplexed signals may be selected to facilitate generation of channel estimates for PBCH signals transmitted using nearby frequency tones.

    Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate transmitting control information in wireless networks. Portions of bandwidth can be blanked for transmitting control information, and the control information transmitters can utilize beacon symbols to convey the control information. In this regard, interference is mitigated with respect to data transmissions over the control information bandwidth. Selected frequencies of the beacon symbols in a codeword can be used to indicate the control information. The codewords can be encoded with an error control code to provide redundancy for decoding in the presence of some interference.
