    Abstract: A system and method for hybrid FDM (frequency division multiplexing)-CDM (code division multiplexing) structure for single carrier control channels is provided. The hybrid FDM-CDM structure maximizes frequency diversity over the entire available bandwidth such that orthogonality between signals from users in a given cell is maintained. Thus, users in the given cell can transmit over a non-contiguous set of tones. Furthermore, the hybrid FDM-CDM structure maintains orthogonality of a pilot of users in different cells based on a despreading operation in the time domain.

    Abstract: Techniques for sending messages for system access are described. In one aspect, a user equipment (UE) sends a first message with power headroom and/or buffer size information for system access. A Node B determines at least one parameter (e.g., a resource grant, power control information, etc.) based on the power headroom and/or buffer size information. The Node B sends a second message with the parameter(s). The UE sends a third message based on the parameter(s), e.g., with uplink resources indicated by the resource grant, with transmit power determined based on the power control information, etc. In another aspect, the UE sends a radio environment report in the third message. The report may be used to select a cell and/or a frequency for the UE. In yet another aspect, the second message includes power control information, and the UE sends the third message based on the power control information.

    Abstract: Facilitating frequency hopping for single carrier, frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) transmission is described herein. By way of example, user data transmitted within a transmission allocation unit can be frequency shifted with respect to time based slots of the allocation unit. As a result, frequency hopping can be accomplished while preserving single carrier constraints and a low peak to average power ratio (PAPR). Furthermore, various frequency shifted mechanisms are disclosed to accomplish preservation of single carrier restraints. For example, a scheduler can select between cyclic frequency shifting, transposed frequency shifting, and multiplexing of frequency selective scheduled and frequency hopped data based on an audit of scheduled data for the transmission allocation unit. As a result, the reduction in interference achieved through frequency hopping can be combined with the low PAPR for various data allocation configurations.

    Abstract: Systems and methods facilitate pilot signal design, power control, data rate determination, and channel assignment in the reverse link of a wireless communication system for dynamic scheduling and joint operation in SIMO, SU-MIMO, and MU-MIMO. Pilot signal is based on periodic transmissions of multiple sounding reference sequences for channel estimation. Power control is based on a reference signal at a predetermined power spectral density (PSD) level, and on an offset PSD determined and signaled based on an antenna that transmits the reference signal, other cell interference, and power amplifier headroom. PSD levels for SIMO/MIMO data transmissions are determined based on channel estimates and the predetermined PSD and offset PSD. Such data PSD levels are employed to generate data rates, and to dynamically schedule data streams for communication. Communication resources are conveyed through a channel assignment with an overhead that depends on the maximum multiplexing order of the estimated channel.
