Abstract:
An elevator rope (100) comprises a steel cord (114) and an elastomer jacket (140) surrounding the steel cord. One or more yarns (120, 122) are wrapped or braided or knitted around the steel cord before the elastomer jacket is applied. The yarns are therefore integrated into the polymer jacket. The yarns induce a pattern at the surface of the polymer jacket. By amending the yarn structure, the surface pattern of the polymer jacket can be changed. This has an implication on the friction of the elevator rope on the sheave on which it is running. Furthermore, the integrated yarns help to preserve the integrity of the elastomer jacket. In a second aspect of the invention a method is claimed wherein first one or more yarns are wrapped, braided or knitted around the steel cord prior to extrusion of the elastomer. The yarn mantle ensures a good centricity of the elastomer jacket and an improved processability of the elevator rope.
Abstract:
The invention relates to an abrasion resistant product comprising a plurality of interlaced yarns wherein at least a first yarn having a tensile strength, having a value TS in N/tex, said first yarn containing a plurality of UHMWPE fibres having a titer, having a value T in den, wherein the ratio T/TS is at least 5 den.tex/N.
Abstract:
A hybrid rope (40) or a hybrid strand (50) comprising a core element (42, 52), a first (44, 54) and a second (46, 56) metallic closed layer surrounding said core element (42, 52). The core element (42, 52) includes a bundle of synthetic yarns. The first metallic closed layer (44, 54) includes a plurality of first strands of wires helically twisted together with the core element (42, 52) in a first direction. The second metallic closed layer (46, 56) includes a plurality of second wires or strands helically twisted together with said core element (42, 52) and said first metallic closed layer (44, 54) in a second direction. The cross-sectional area of the core element (42, 52) is larger than the total cross-sectional area of the first (44, 54) and second (46, 56) metallic closed layers. A corresponding method of producing such a hybrid rope or hybrid strand is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A high traction synthetic rope comprising a braided sheath (8) adhered to a synthetic strength member (7) by means of a first synthetic portion (9) and portions of material (23) adhered to the outside surface of the braided sheath by means of a second synthetic portion (21), where the portions of material (23) are formed of a substance that differs from a substance mainly forming the second synthetic portion (21) and exhibits greater friction when wet or with greasy conditions and measured on an iron surface than does the substance mainly forming the second synthetic portion. Also methods of manufacturing such a high traction synthetic rope are disclosed. The rope shows reliable traction on driven rotating elements during wet / greasy conditions.
Abstract:
There is disclosed a method of forming an eye end termination on a rope having a core comprising a plurality of multi-strand subropes, and a rope having a core comprising a plurality of multi-strand subropes and at least one eye end termination. In one embodiment, a method of forming an eye end termination (16) on a rope (10) having a core (12) is disclosed. The rope comprises a plurality of multi-strand subropes (14) each of a first strength, and the method comprising the steps of: coupling a pair of subropes ( 14) in the rope core ( 12) together using a multi-strand coupling rope ( 18) of a second strength which is greater than said first strength, to thereby form at least part of the eye end termination (16). The step of coupling the pair of subropes (14) together comprises splicing a first portion of a coupling rope (18) to one of the subropes in the pair of subropes, and splicing a second portion of the coupling rope to the other one of the subropes in the pair of subropes.
Abstract:
A method for forming a sling or a splice of an eye formed of coverbraided rope comprising the step of situating a void spacer adjacent to a portion of core rope. A method for producing a spliced sling of a coverbraided rope, the method comprising steps of : a) providing a void spacer; b) situating the void spacer alongside at least a portion of an intended splice braid zone of a strength member core; and c) covering at least portions of the void spacer with at least a portion of a braided sheath. A method for forming a high strength synthetic rope useful for towing warps, trawler warps, yachting ropes, mooring lines, anchoring lines, oil derrick anchoring lines, seismic lines, paravane lines, and any other uses for rope, cable or chain.
Abstract:
An elongate sleeve for protecting elongate members and method of construction thereof has a textile sleeve with a wall having an inner surface providing a cavity extending along a longitudinal axis of the sleeve for receiving the elongate members. A resilient support member is arranged in communication with the wall. The support member has an arcuate shape in lateral cross-section with an outer convex surface facing outwardly from the axis for flush engagement with the inner surface of the wall and an inner concave surface facing inwardly toward the axis. The support member extends less than completely about a circumference of the inner surface.
