    Abstract: An extract of Vitex rotundifolia L. is provided to have high polyphenol content and show excellent electron donating ability, SOD-like activity, nitrite scavenging capability, xanthine oxidase inhibitory ability and tyrosinase inhibitory ability, thereby being usefully used as a skin aging preventing and skin whitening cosmetic composition. A cosmetic composition for preventing skin aging and whitening comprises an extract of Vitex rotundifolia L. as an effective ingredient, wherein the extract is obtained by extracting seeds or stems with water, C1-4 alcohol, a mixture of water and C1-4 alcohol, propylene glycol, ethyl acetate, butylene glycol, ether or chloroform.
