Abstract: This invention relates to providing a system for improved methods of promoting, forming and managing Internet-based communities on the Internet through and within standard web pages without requiring the installation of additional software on a user's computer or on web sites where the system is implemented by using the latest software tools, presentation techniques and Internet communication methods. Additionally, this invention provides real time monitoring of user counts to all visitors and web pate owners when a page with the embedded URL is accessed. In particular, this invention permits web page visitors to initiate and participate in anonymous and hoc chat sessions initiated from a selected web page. Additionally, this invention provides a web-based location which permits Internet users to join and participate in Internet-based communities and the related activities such as messaging other members, participating in member chat sessions and web resource sharing without the need to install software.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method of providing acute neuroprotection by inducing the erythropoietin (EPO) signaling pathway in neuronal cells close to or subsequent to the time of excitatory insult; and inducing an insulin-like growth factor (IGF) signaling pathway in the neuronal cells close to or subsequent to the time of excitatory insult, thereby producing a synergistic acute neuropotective effect in the neuronal cells. The invention also provides a method of preventing or reducing the severity of a neurologic condition in a subject by administering to the subject EPO or an active fragment or analog thereof at a does of at most 200 U/kg; and administering to the subject an IGF or an active fragment or analog thereof, thereby providing of the neurologic condition. Such a method can be used to prevent or reduce the severity of, for example, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, epilepsy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, multiple sclerosis, a movement disorder, HIV-associated dementia, HIV-associated neuropathy, neuropathicpain, migraine, glaucoma, drug addition, drug withdrawal, drug dependency, depression or anxiety.

Abstract: The invention provides compositions and methods for increasing the production of alcohol, e.g., ethanol, from a saccharide source and increasing the growth of ethanologenic cells by exposing ethanologenic cells to a compound. Preferred alcohologenic cells (cells capable of fermenting a carbon source into an alcohol) are selected from the family Enterobacteriaceae , such as, for example, Escherichia or Klebsiella . Furthermore, the methods and compositions of the invention are suitable for use in simultaneous saccharification and fermentation.

Abstract: The present invention relates generally to a method and system for routing control in communication networks and for system control. More particularly, the present invention performs routing by controlling the components in a network with software agents (102) operating in a reward framework using p, tau, and patches (104) to improve communication performance (106). This invention disclosure includes the combination of reinforcement learning agents in a market-based or performance-based reward framework together with optimization techniques called p, tau, and patches (104) as applied to the problem of topology-and load-based routing in data networks, in order to improve communication performance (106) such as communication latency and bandwidth. The invention also applies to the control of other systems, including operations management, job-shop problems, organizational structure, portfolio management, risk management etc.
