Abstract:
A permanent solder mask is applied to the surface of a printed circuit board using a copper foil carrier. The solder mask preferably is one or two layers of a thermosetting resin e.g. epoxy resin. Selected circuit features are exposed by etching away portions of the copper foil and removing the underlying thermosetting resin. Then, the remaining copper foil is removed, leaving the solder mask on the surface of the printed circuit board.
Abstract:
A continuous process for the production of a phenolic-based cyanate ester resin is provided and includes the steps of: feeding a phenolic organic compound, a trialkylamine and a cyanogen halide into a continuous, plug-flow type reactor; causing the reactants to flow through and react in the reactor over a period of time defined as a residence time; continuously reacting the phenolic organic compound, the trialkylamine and the cyanogen halide in the reactor; and maintaining a temperature in the reactor of between -75 DEG C to 0 DEG C. The reactor has a length which is equal to or greater than ten times its internal diameter. The mol equivalent concentration of the cyanogen halide is greater than the mol equivalent concentration of the trialkylamine, and the mol equivalent of the trialkylamine is greater than the mol equivalent of the phenolic organic compound. The reactants are resident for a long enough time in the reactor to achieve at least substantial conversion of the phenol groups to cyanate ester groups, but for short enough a time to substantially suppress undesirable side reactions. The phenolic-based cyanate ester resins prepared by the continuous process may contain as much as 95 percent by weight or more cyanate ester groups.
Abstract:
A fuel system including a fuel pump (15) for supplying fuel from a source through a variable orifice flow metering valve (17) and then through a variable orifice pressurizing valve (19) to an engine utilizes a determination of the pressurizing valve orifice area (29, 65) to ascertain the fuel flow through the pressurizing valve. The pressurizing valve includes a movable piston (45) with a piston section movable linearly to open and close selectively an orifice (41, 73). The pressurizing valve may take the form of a cylindrical cavity (59) with the piston reciprocable therein. The cavity is provided with an Inlet port (31) and at least one sidewall outlet port (61, 73; 63, 75) and the piston section slidable along the sidewall outlet port to increase and decrease selectively the effective size of the orifice. A transducer (29) is coupled to the piston to provide an indication of piston position. A second piston section (47) for opening and closing selectively a second orifice (63, 75) may be provided. The piston has one extreme position where both orifices are open, another extreme position where both orifices are closed, a first range of positions where the size of one orifice varies while the other orifice remains closed, and a second range of positions where the sizes of both orifices vary. A linear relationship between orifice area and piston position occurs wherever the outlet ports have a substantially constant circumferential dimension.
Abstract:
Polyester molding compositions are produced which exhibit a good balance of properties such as flow into molds, gloss and other surface characteristics of molded parts such that they generally do not require painting prior to use. Such are particularly useful for molded parts for consumer and industrial applications. The composition contains a thermoplastic polyester polymer, a reinforcing component, a plasticizer, and a mixture of nucleating agents. A first nucleating agent is an alkali metal salt of a carboxylic acid in an amount of about 0.15 to about 0.35 percent by weight and a second nucleating agent is a metal salt ionomer at from about 0.35 to about 1.2 percent by weight.

The present invention provides a vapor phase process for the production of difluoromethane, HFC-32. The process of this invention provides for the preparation of HFC-32 by a process that exhibits both good product yield and selectively.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an improved sulfur dioxide reduction catalyst. The catalyst of this invention is a fired alumina calcium aluminate catalyst that exhibits improved mechanical stability.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a process for producing 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane (HFC-134a). The process reacts, 1,1,1-trifluoro-2-chloroethane (HCFC-133a) and hydrogen fluoride in a first reactor. The product resulting from the first reaction step is brought to a second reactor together with trichloroethylene and hydrogen fluoride. The second reaction is conducted at a higher temperature than the first reactor. Optionally, HCl is removed prior to removal of the crude HFC-134a product. Unreacted HCFC-133a, trichloroethylene and hydrogen fluoride may be recycled back to the first reactor.
Abstract:
A desiccant type air dryer (10) for an air supply system for a motor vehicle brake system. The air dryer incorporates features for convenient mounting and dismounting of a desiccant cartridge (12) to the air dryer body (14) assembly. This connection is achieved through the use of an externally accessible through bolt (84) which passes through the body assembly and engages a central threaded boss (44) on the load plate (34) of the dessicant cartridge. Interlocking engagement between the desiccant cartridge and body assembly prevents these parts from rotating relative to one another during mounting and dismounting of the cartridge. The desiccant cartridge is readily removed through engaging the through bolt driving head (90) using conventional tools.
Abstract:
A method is disclosed for making hydroxy-substituted ethynylated biphenyl compounds and for reacting such compounds with a family of noncross-linking thermosetting poly(arylene ethers) to produce novel poly(arylene ether) compositions which, when cured at glass transition temperatures greater than about 350 DEG C to form thin films, possess properties such as low dielectric constant, low moisture absorption, and high thermal stability. These films are suitable for use as intermetal dielectrics for multilevel interconnection.

A magnetic theft detection system includes a glassy metal alloy strip having a value of magnetostriction near zero. The strip has been annealed to produce a step change in the magnetization versus applied field behavior (B-H loop) thereof, and has a composition consisting essentially of the formula: (Co Fe)100-x (Si B)x where 20
