Abstract:
Process for making both ACN and HMD from partial hydrogenation of ADN by using a combination of distillations resulting in the formation of a mixture of HMD and THA that can be hydrogenated to produce a mixture of HMD and HMI that can be separated easily by simple distillation.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an air filter for removing contaminants from air. Such a filter is useful in removing particulate matter, as well as volatile organic compounds (VOC's). In particular, the air filter of the present invention includes a reticulated foam substrate having a gel applied thereto. The substrate may be used alone or in combination with an electrostatic filter, which helps to trap smaller particles (i.e., less than 3 microns in diameter). The substrate itself may trap larger particles (i.e., greater than 3 microns in diameter).
Abstract:
A linear polyamide having a weight average molecular weight above 200,000 is made by heating a lower molecular weight molten polyamide with thorough mixing at a temperature of about 265-300 DEG C for at least 5 minutes while an inert gas is swept gently through the reactor, the increase of molecular weight of the polyamide being catalyzed by a particular phosphinic acid derivative.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are barrier articles of polyurethane blends or alloys that limit the permeability of gases there through, particularly as used in inflatable sports articles and more particularly as used in soccer balls.
Abstract:
The present invention comprises a blend of polyester and a partially aromatic polyamide with an ionic compatibilizer and a cobalt salt. This blend can be processed into a container that has both active and passive oxygen barrier and carbon dioxide barrier properties at an improved color and clarity than containers known in the art. The partially aromatic polyarnide is preferably metaxylylene adipamide. The ionic compatibilizer is preferably 5-sodiumsulfoisophthalic acid or 5zincsulfoisophthalic acid, or their dialkyl esters such as the dimethyl ester (SIM) and glycol ester (SIPEG). The cobalt salt is selected form the class of cobalt acetate, cobalt carbonate, cobalt chloride, cobalt hydroxide, cobalt naphthenate, cobalt oleate, cobalt linoleate, cobalt octoate, cobalt stearate, cobalt nitrate, cobalt phosphate, cobalt sulfate, cobalt (ethylene glycolate), or mixtures of two or more of these. The partially aromatic polyamide is present in a range from about I to about 10 wt. % of said composition. The ionic compatibilizer is present in a range from about 0.1 to about 2.0 mol-% of said composition. The cobalt salt is present in a range from about 20 to about 500 ppm of said composition.
Abstract:
A waterproof, breathable, recyclable, layered composite fabric with stretch that is especially well-suited for weather protection garments and the like, has at least one layer of a woven, knitted, or non-woven face fabric of stretch-recovery bicomponent fibers, and an elastomeric waterproof film or coating of the same polymer, and optionally a liner fabric of knitted construction. The composite fabric is recyclable using traditional techniques to recycle polyester or polyamide. Garments made from this fabric are also disclosed.
Abstract:
An electrically conductive elastic composite yarn comprises an elastic member that is surrounded by at least one conductive covering filament(s). The elastic member has a predetermined relaxed unit length L and a predetermined drafted length of (N x L), where N is a number preferably in the range from about 1.0 to about 8.0. The conductive covering filament has a length that is greater than the drafted length of the elastic member such that substantially all of an elongating stress imposed on the composite yarn is carried by the elastic member. The elastic composite yarn may further include an optional stress-bearing member surrounding the elastic member and the conductive covering filament. The length of the stress-bearing member is less than the length of the conductive covering filament and greater than, or equal to, the drafted length (N x L) of the elastic member, such that a portion of the elongating stress imposed on the composite yarn is carried by the stress-bearing member.
Abstract:
A catalysed vapor-phase process for the hydrocyanation of acyclic diolefinic compounds to olefinic nitriles in which the olefinic double bond is not conjugated to the triple bond of the cyano group, wherein a supported catalyst composition comprising at least one multidentate phosphite ligand and zero-valent nickel is preferably used with specially selected or treated supports.
Abstract:
Process for preparing a nickel/ligand catalyst in which a crude ligand mixture is contacted with at least one member selected from the group consisting of (i) a weakly acidic organic resin, (ii) a weakly basic organic resin, (iii) a high-surface-area organic resin, (iv) activated carbon, (v) aluminosilicate zeolite, (vi) a two phase solvent system for liquid-liquid extraction and (vii) a Lewis acid; recovering a solution containing a ligand of the formula (R1O)2POZOP(OR1)2; and contacting the solution with nickel chloride in the presence of a nitrile solvent and a reducing metal which is more electropositive than nickel to produce the nickel/ligand catalyst.
