    Abstract: A furniture hinge has a hinge arm connectible to the body of a piece of furniture and a lever connectible to a closure for the furniture. The closure is movable between a closed position and an open position. A damping device is disposed between the hinge arm and the lever and includes a housing having a bellows-like first part and a second part secured to the hinge arm. A piston rides in the housing and divides it into first and second chambers. The piston is provided with flow channels which allow hydraulic fluid in the housing to flow between the first and second chambers. The piston is mounted on a rod which extends through, and is coupled to, the first housing part and is articulately connected to the lever. A sealing member likewise mounted on the rod is arranged to seal the flow channels upon movement of the closure to its closed position. As the closure moves to its open position, the rod moves out of the housing with an accompanying expansion of the first housing part and unblocking of the flow channels. The pressure in the first chamber is reduced so that the fluid enters this chamber via the flow channels. Upon movement of the closure to its closed position, the rod moves into the housing and the flow channels are sealed. Fluid then flows from the first chamber to the second chamber by leakage. This may be accomplished by providing the sealing member with a slit and making the second housing part or the sealing member elastically deformable. Alternatively, the piston may be formed with an elastically deformable sealing lip which engages the inner surface of the housing.

    Abstract: A door closing coordinator for a pair of oppositely hinged doors where closure of the inactive door withdraws a stopping member from a holding lever for the active door and permits the active door to close after the inactive door. An override mechanism is provided to permit the active door to close first if a predetermined force is applied thereto to avoid damage to the active door.

In a closing device for doors in which a closer spring 8, Fig. 2 (not shown) and a hydraulic damping arrangement 9 both act on individual rocking arms operated by individual cams mounted on the door pivot spindle, the bore of the damping arrangement cam 7 Fig. 3 (not shown) is provided with stop surfaces 25, 26 which are aligned with abutment surfaces 28 on the spindle so that relative movement between the cam 7 and the spindle is possible. The hydraulic damping arrangement 9 consists of a cylinder 42 containing a piston 43 which is connected by a piston rod to the end of rocking arm 16 and houses a piston spring 40, said piston 43 acting at the end of its stroke to open a valve 47 in the end of the cylinder. Said valve 47 when operated by the piston 43 reduces the pressure in the cylinder as the cam 7 passes the "door closed" position and the cam 7 is rotated relative to the spindle by the piston spring 40. The valve 47 can also act as a pressure-relief valve for the cylinder. Before the valve 47 is operated a damping hydraulic pressure is achieved by restricting the flow of oil through a channel 44 in a pin 45, the amount of restriction being adjustable by a regulating screw 46.

    Abstract: A hinge includes a stop part to secure the hinge to a stationary furniture part; an articulated lever; and a hinge cup pivotally arranged on the stop part via the articulated lever. The articulated lever with the hinge cup is mounted via an articulated axle, and the hinge cup can be secured to a movable furniture part. A damping device dampens a relative movement between the stop part and the hinge cup between an open position and a closed position of the hinge. The damping device has a linear damper including a piston and a piston rod, and is arranged outside of the hinge cup. An actuation element separate from the articulated lever actuates the damping device. The actuation element is rotatably mounted on the hinge cup, and the piston rod is movable in a substantially translational manner relative to the linear damper by a rotation of the actuation element.
