Abstract:
A pulley system comprising: a first pulley rotatable about a first pulley axis, a first cable portion wrapped around the first pulley, such that, when the first pulley is rotated in a first direction about the first pulley axis, the first cable portion is unwound from the first pulley, and a second cable portion wrapped around the first pulley, such that, when the first pulley is rotated in the first direction about the first pulley axis, the second cable portion is wound further onto the first pulley, wherein the first and second cable portions form a continuous cable passing radially through the first pulley.
Abstract:
A fire extinguisher training device comprising a display device for displaying imagery of a fire, a holder for holding the display device, a central member to which the holder is mounted, and an electronic control module mounted to the central member. The device has a trigger mechanism and a trigger sensor for sensing movement of the trigger mechanism, wherein the electronic control module is communicatively connected to the trigger sensor and also to the display device.
Abstract:
A planetary gearbox with two rows of planets, at least some of the planets including magnets. The planets are driven by a stator to drive the gearbox as a motor. The planets may be geared with axial portions with different helix angle to position the gears and avoid the need for a planet carrier or bearings. Gears with small heights and/or high pressure angles may be used to avoiding or reduce negative effects of conventional gearing.
Abstract:
A two dimensional structure such as a disk or belt is shaped or distorted to form a buckling wave. At least one contact touches the wave, two contacts squeezing the wave between them providing a firmer connection. The wave is propagated along the structure by any of a variety of means including magnets or piezo actuators. This movement of the wave moves the contacts relative to the two dimensional structure, providing a high leverage ratio.
Abstract:
A control element having a beam member divided into an actuation section and a valve section positioned on opposing sides of a pivot member, in which active control of the actuation section causes buckling of the valve section to bring the valve section from a closed state to an open state or causes relaxing of the valve section to bring the valve section from an open state to a closed state.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for safely producing hydrogen peroxide by injecting dispersed minute bubbles of hydrogen (28) and oxygen (34) into a rapidly flowing liquid medium (24). The minute bubbles are surrounded by the liquid medium of sufficient volume for preventing an explosive reaction between the hydrogen and oxygen. The liquid medium is formed of an acidic aqueous solution and a Group VIII metal catalyst (14). Hydrogen (28) is sparged into the flowing medium (24) for dissolution of the hydrogen in the medium. Oxygen bubbles (34) are reacted with the dissolved hydrogen for producing hydrogen peroxide (72). Preferably, the liquid medium has a velocity of at least 10 feet per second for providing a bubbly flow regime in the reactor. Water (12) and catalyst (14) are added to tank (16). Preferably, an amount of hydrogen peroxide stabilizer is added to tank (16). The method and apparatus provide for the safe production of hydrogen peroxide with low manufacturing costs.
Abstract:
A displacement device including an inner rotor and an outer rotor with meshing projections. Points on each rotor trace a hypotrochoidal path relative to the other. The tips of the outer rotor projections may contact the inner rotor at Top Dead Center (TDC) and Bottom Dead Center (BDC) to form higher and lower pressure regions. Various elements may shape other elements to form seals.
Abstract:
An actuator comprising: a motor having a housing and a drive shaft, the motor arranged to rotate the drive shaft relative to the housing about a drive shaft axis; a first torque transfer device arranged to transfer torque from the drive shaft to a second shaft, the second shaft being rotatable about a second shaft axis parallel to and radially spaced from the drive shaft axis; and an output torque transfer device arranged to transfer torque from the second shaft to the housing of the motor; wherein, upon rotation of the drive shaft relative to the motor housing, the housing of the motor is arranged to rotate relative to the position of the second shaft axis.
Abstract:
A mobile platform intended for civilian, industrial, research or other use. An ambulation system or mobile platform such as for traveling over uneven terrain includes one or more leg arrangements attached to a main body or chassis. In an embodiment, a leg arrangement comprises one or more legs, such as legs that rotate in the same and singular direction around their respective rotary joints when the vehicle is moving in a single direction. The rotational axis for both legs is located near each other and preferably coaxially and allows ground contact of two or more legs at all times.
Abstract:
A flex spline torque transfer device has a flex spline that is deflected in the radial direction by magnetic attraction to form a wave. The flex spline may be deflected radially inward by magnetic attraction to form a wave. The flex spline (FS) may be deflected radially inward by magnetic attraction at one or more positions equally spaced around FS ID. The attraction may be greatest at smallest radial air gap between FS and magnetic means and lowest at largest airgap. The magnetic means may or may not be actively commutated. The highest magnetic force may be determined by smallest airgap. In another statement, a torque transfer device has a flex spline that is deflected radially inward by magnetic attraction to a permanent magnet means at one or more positions equally spaced around FS ID.
