Abstract: 329,002. David, T. H., and Lawton, F. B. Jan. 9, 1929. Rotary machines.-In a machine for printing advertisements &c. on strips of paper or the like, types are set on an endless flexible band which travels continuously and causes the types to print successively on a travelling strip. In the machine shown in the Figure, types 4 are placed in order of composition on a flexible endless band 2 which travels over a table 6 and batween guides wand passes over rollers 3, 3 , 3 , the roller 3 being geared to a motor 23 and being provided with sprocketwheels co-operating with holes in the band. A strip 7 receiving the type impressions passes from a roll 8, under an impression roller 5 geared to the roller 3b, and over a roller 11 to a take-up roller 13 driven by a band 15. The types are inked by a roller 25b to which ink is supplied by means of rollers 25, 29 from a. duct, the roller 25 being connected by a belt or chain 24 to the shaft of the roller 5. The types preferably consist of wood blocks faced with rubber.

Abstract: A variable diameter cylinder made from a sheet having first and second edges that are opposite to each other and that slideably connect with each other to form a helical joint of a cylinder such that sliding the edges of the sheet along the joint varies a diameter and length of the cylinder. [Class 61 (ii)] A combination tool comprising pliers, hammer, wire cutters, nail extractor, is provided with two teeth 5, 6, one on each of the pliers jaws 4 which engage in side-by-side relation when the pliers are closed and are cut away underneath, so that when the teeth engage on opposite sides of a staple and the jaws 4 of the pliers are pressed together, the staple is withdrawn. Further, the hammer head portion 8 is provided with a through hole 13 and preferably an undercut groove 15 and post 14 which are used capstan-like for tightening wires, &c. Holding-jaws 12 are provided in the crux of the handles 3 of the pliers.

Abstract: A system and method for pasteurizing the surface of a food product includes a flame pasteurizing means arranged to transfer heat to an outer layer of the food product as it is carried by a cook belt. The flame pasteurizing means provides a medium that engulfs more than 50% of the surface area of the skin or outer layer and raises the temperature of the outer layer to at least 145° F (about 62.8° C). A washing means, arranged at an exit point of the ilame pasteurizing means, removes the raised temperature outer layer and stops heat transfer to an adjacent inner layer of the food product. The pasteurized and washed product retains the same color and flavor as that of the unpasteurized product.
