Abstract:
The invention provides compositions and methods for the detection and quantification of Ehrlichia ewingii, Ehrlichia ewingii antibodies, antibody fragments, and polypeptides.
Abstract:
A slide cartridge (1) for use with a chemical analyzer includes an upper ring (2) and a lower ring (4) secured together but rotatable with respect to each other. The upper and lower rings define a plurality of reaction chambers (6) between them, which receive dry analyte test slides (8). A gear track formed in the underside of the lower ring engages a pinion gear (28) attached to a stepping motor (30) of the chemical analyzer in order to rotate the slide cartridge. The slide cartridge is rotated under a sample fluid metering device (68), which deposits a sample fluid on the test slides through a plurality of spotter ports (66) formed in the upper ring, and above a reflectometer (22), which performs a colorimetric measurement on the spotted test slides through viewing windows (18) formed in the lower ring of the slide cartridge.
Abstract:
The present invention provides compositions and methods for extending the release times and lowering the toxicity of pharmacologically active compounds. The compounds comprise a salt of the pharmacologically active compound with a lipophilic counterion and a pharmaceutically acceptable water immiscible solvent. In one embodiment the compositions are provided as injectable compositions. The lipophilic counterion may be a saturated or unsaturated C8-C22 fatty acid, and preferably may be a saturated or unsaturated C10-C18 fatty acid. The compositions are released over time when administered to a mammal. Therefore, the present invention enables one to provide a controlled dose administration of the active compound for periods of up to 15 days or even longer. Many compounds can be administered according to the present invention, including, but not limited to, tilmicosin, oxytetracycline, fluoxetine, roxithromycin, and turbinafine.
Abstract:
A disposable, dry chemistry analytical system is disclosed which is broadly useful for the detection of a variety of analytes present in biological fluids such as whole blood, serum, plasma, urine and cerebral spinal fluid. The invention discloses the use of the reaction interface that forms between two liquids converging from opposite directions within a bibulous material. The discovery comprises a significant improvement over prior art disposable, analytical reagent systems in that the detectable reactant zone is visually distinct and separate from the unreacted reagents allowing for the use of reaction indicators exhibiting only minor changes as well as extremely high concentrations of reactants. In addition, staged, multiple reagents can be incorporated. Whole blood can be used as a sample without the need for separate cell separating materials. Finally, the invention is useful for the detection of analytes in a broad variety of materials such as milk, environmental samples, and other samples containing target analytes.
Abstract:
The invention provides components and methods for polymerase chain reaction assays. The assays minimize both handling of material and time spent running samples. For example, a single internal positive control (SPC) polynucleotide pair can provide a means to ensure proper nucleic acid purification for both RNA and DNA test targets. Additionally, standard cycling conditions for ali diagnostic tests allow the user to run both RNA and DNA targets side-by-side.
Abstract:
Methods, devices, kits and compositions for detecting the presence or absence of roundworm in a fecal sample are disclosed herein. The methods, devices, kits and compositions of the present invention may be used to confirm the presence or absence of roundworm in a fecal sample from a mammal that may also be infected with one or more of hookworm, whipworm, and heartworm. Confirmation of the presence or absence of roundworm in the mammal may be made, for example, for the purpose of selecting an optimal course of treating the mammal and/or for the purpose of determining whether the mammal has been rid of the infection after treatment has been initiated.
