Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to change a modulation method in accordance with a transmission parameter by modulating data by a variable modulation method, transmitting modulated data through a radio link, changing the rate of data transmission on the radio link in accordance with a modulation method and transmitting the modulated data together with a code indicating the data rate to be used for transmission. SOLUTION: Data are outputted from a MODEM interface device 22 to a multiplexer 24 and multiplexed by using a signaling information input inputted from a signaling unit buffer 25. The data are scrambled by a scrambler 26 by using a scrambling vector encoded by an encoder 28 determined during the setting of a call. Data from the encoder 28 and a parity bit are buffered by a transmission synchronizer and outputted to a demodulator 32. The demodulator 32 demodulates each bit set as a symbol and selects the transmission of a data rate in a prescribed band width.

SOLUTION: This method includes a step, where a registration request is received from a terminal requesting an access, a step where a signaling channel assignment signal to definitely assign a duplicate signal channel to each terminal is transmitted to each terminal, a step where an authentication request signal is transmitted through the signaling channel, a step where the authentication request signal is received through the channel, and a step where whether or not the access to the system is permitted is decided according to contents of the authentication reply signal. The contents of the authentication reply signal depend on the contents of the authentication request signal.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for propagating data on a status of a user terminal in a mobile communication system from a central register to a plurality of local registers.
SOLUTION: Data on the status of a user 12 are simultaneously transmitted from a GLR-N 4 to a GLR-L 10 via a satellite 8 in an HDLC form. Each GLR-L 10 requests the retransmission of all HDLC frames which are not accurately received. The GLR-N 4 records a frame which is first transmitted among frames which are not confirmed by all the GLR-L 10 yet and when a new frame is corresponding to the outside of a range of a transmission window for the first transmitted frame, the transmission of the said frame is inhibited. The GLR-N 4 performs polling to the GLR-L 10 for the retransmission request, and the GLR-L 10 also transmits the request of no demand to the GLR-N 4. Even when a plurality of requests are transmitted for the same frame within predetermined time, the GLR-N 4 retransmits the frame just once.

The array antenna (1) is a communication station which has triangular or hexagonal symmetry, and the array of beams is a communication system which has triangular symmetry or hexagonal symmetry and is not deformed substantially.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a novel communication method and a novel communication device. SOLUTION: A mobile terminal using a bandwidth assignment protocol for a mobile communication network reports the network about a bandwidth requirement and the network controls a size of a bandwidth used by the mobile terminal when receiving a report of the bandwidth requirement. The mobile terminal instructs the network about a total quantity of data awaited for transmission, a maximum delay time of part of the data requiring most urgent transmission, and the maximum delay time of part of data not requiring urgency most. On the occurrence of collision between transmission of two mobile terminals, the mobile terminals wait for a time interval controlled by the network before trying other contention based access transmission. The network periodically changes an available contention based access capacity according to an observed available level and/or a collision rate in the contention based access capacity assigned before.

Abstract: In a mobile communications system 10, a message is sent to a mobile terminal 16 which transmits an acknowledgement signal if the message is received. If the system 10 does not detect an acknowledgement signal, it transmits a high margin notification signal to the mobile terminal 16 to notify the terminal that an attempt was made to send the message. When the mobile terminal 16 has received a notification signal and subsequently comes within range of lower margin signals from the system, it sends a registration signal to the system. The system may then retransmit the message to the mobile terminal 16.

Abstract: A satellite communications system provides a communications service to a mobile terminal (2) on which different communications applications (4a to 4d) may be run. Calls are set up between any of the applications (4a to 4d) via a satellite (12) to a network management centre (18) which provides different service adaptors (20a to 20d) which adapt the calls to different types of service provided over terrestrial networks (22), such as telephony, facsimile, internet or ATM services. The bandwidth allocated to each call over the satellite link may be varied during the call according to demand either from the relevant application (4) or from the network management centre (18). Multiple calls may be connected concurrently to or from different applications running on the mobile terminal. A maximum bandwidth is allocated to each call. Efficient use is thereby made of the limited bandwidth available over the satellite (12), according to the instantaneous bandwidth requirements of different applications (4). For real-time calls requiring multiple slots per frame in a TDMA channel, the slots are mutually spaced apart to reduce delay.
