Abstract:
Send and receive services are operated that send and receive fax messages, respectively, via fax protocols. Each new customer is offered a predetermined amount of the receive service, and a more limited amount of the send service, both free of charge to the customer, as part of a group of services that includes Internet access, Web services, or Internet telephony. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.
Abstract:
A method to promote use of one communication service by associating it with another service and offering incentives to use the first service in return for use of the second service. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.
Abstract:
A system to maintain a customer account including an account balance where deposits are made by a depositor calling a telephone number to which the caller incurs a charge to be connected. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.
Abstract:
A message processing and forwarding system for processing electronic messages in digital format received over a computer communication path or network (111), and forwarded over a telephone circuit switched network to user's receiver (133), such as a pager. A content processor in a message server (103) processes the received digital message in accordance with knowledge of the receiver's capabilities and user-configured message filtering information to create a customized second message suitable for handling by the user's receiver (133) at a remote physical location. Also, the system defines a distributed architecture for global paging, including multiple redundancy, to yield a robust system. In a preferred embodiment, the original digital message is part of an e-mail message received and forwarded through a conventional computer communication network (111) such as the Internet.
Abstract:
A Message Storage and Deliver System (MSDS) is connected to the public switched telephone network (PSTN) and receives incoming calls with these calls being facsimile, voice, or data transmissions. The MSDS detects the type of call and stores the message signal in a database. The MSDS is also connected to the Internet and has a hyper-text transfer protocol deamon (HTTPD) for receiving requests from users. The HTTPD forwards requests for certain files or messages to a network server which transmits at least part of the message to the HTTPD and then to the user. In addition to requests for certain documents, the HTTPD may also receive a request in the form of a search query. The search query is forwarded from the HTTPD to an application program for conducting the search of the database. The results of the search are forwarded through the HTTPD to the user. The user may then select one or more files or messages from the search results and may save the search for later reference.

Abstract:
A message storing and delivery method and system (10) wherein messages are received (40), converted (58) from a first file format to any type of mixed-media type page layout mark-up language that can be used to exchange information on a network (30); said mixed-media message is stored (52) within a storage area (11), retrieved from the storage area after a request (64) has been received from a user (32) and transmitted (80) to the user (32) over a network (30).
Abstract:
A system controlling use of a communication channel in a communication network. The system comprising a network including service nodes. The service nodes comprising one or more sets having one or more nodes adapted to provide service functions in response to messages in the network. At least one of the sets comprising a member node having an interface for communication with a remote terminal, and a user interface process coupled with the interface to include a user of the remote terminal in the network. At least one of the sets comprising a member node having an interface to the communication network, and a process coupled to the interface to control establishment of the communication channel for the user.
