Abstract: The present invention relates to novel bis-tetrahydrofuran benzodioxolyl sulfonamide compounds which are surprisingly effective protease inhibitors. The invention also relates to pharmaceutical compositions, methods of inhibiting retrovirus proteases, in particular multidrug resistant retrovirus proteases, methods of treating or combating infection or disease associated with retrovirus infection in a mammal, and methods of inhibiting viral replication.

Abstract: A process and a microorganism for synthesizing cellulase enzymes are described. The microorganism is a mutant strain of an Ascomycete fungus capable of synthesizing cellulases. The synthesis of cellulases by the mutant is nonrepressed by glycerol, repressed by glucose but not subject to postrepression lag, and inducible to high levels by lactose. Furthermore, the combination of lactose with xylose elicits maximum cellulase synthesis by the mutant.

Abstract: A method of detecting nitric oxide in a sample utilizing electron paragmagnetic resonance spectroscopy and a spin-labeled material such as fusinite to detect changes in the linewidth of the electron paramagnetic resonance signal of the spin-labeled material in the presence of nitric oxide which can be correlated to the quantity of nitric oxide in the sample.
