Abstract: Cable, wire, optical fibre and other elongated objects may be encased in a tube which has a longitudinal axis and is made from an elongated strip of oriented crystalline thermoplastic polymer film, wherein the strip is memory-set into a split tubular shape. The split may be parallel to the longitudinal axis or follow a helical path along the tube. Preferably, the strip is memory-set so portions adjacent its longitudinal edges overlap or are adapted to be interlocked. After forming into tubular form, the split tube may be splayed open and wound up on a roll for easy transportation; the memoryset tube will re-form when the strip is unwound from the roll.

Abstract: The locking device is suitable for fastening a crash helmet to a motor cylce, so that it cannot be stolen. The lock has a housing unit(5) for fixing to a suitable part of the vehicle. A stirrup piece(15) with shanks(16) extends through holes(19) in the helmet. Locking members inside the housing bolt at least one shank in place. The locking members can be a cylinder lock(8), with pin tumbler, and with stirrup piece shank end acting in conjunction with a 90 deg. blocking element in its bottom end. This is versatile, and locks the main helmet shell instead of only the chinstrap.

Acetylene lamps ; velocipede lamps.-In a gene. rator for vehicular, street, or domestic lamps, water from the chamber 3 dripping from the nozzle 8 traverses the perforated tubes 6, 11 to the calcium-carbide cartridge 10, which, when the bayonet-joint cap 15 is in position, is pressed by a spring 17 against a rubber ring 4 on the casing 1 to make a tight joint. The tube 6 depends from a resilient spring-pressed plate 5, and carries a pad 7 which, when the plate 5 is raised by the pressure of the gas, closes the nozzle 8 and cuts off the water supply. The carbide is retained in the cartridge by a flexible radially-slotted disk 13, of which the inner edge can move upwards as the carbide expands on saturation. A single cock 20 controls the supply of water to the carbide and of gas to the burner 28, the gas from the generator ascending through a filter 24 and a valve 25 to the space 26. Gas generated in excess of that consumed by the burner traverses a non-return inlet valve 31 to a rubber bag 30, whence it escapes through a non-return outlet valve 33 to the space 26 upon the gas pressure therein falling below the normal. A safety escape device for the gas bag 30 is formed by a collar 38, which slides on the perforated tube 34,
