Abstract: A refrigerator is provided to maximize space utilization in a refrigerator compartment with an ice bank having thin thickness mounted onto a refrigerator door or lateral side of the refrigerator compartment, and to discharge mass of ice stuck in the ice bank to a dispenser by an ice separating unit provided within the ice bank. A refrigerator comprises a body unit having a door(13) on the front side and an internal storage compartment, and an ice making apparatus within the body unit. The ice making apparatus comprises an ice maker(40) provided within the storage compartment to produce ice cubes, an ice bank(60) provided on one side of the ice maker to store ice cubes transferred from the ice maker, an ice separating unit(80) for separating mass of ice harden into a mass within the ice bank, comprising one or more ice separating rod(81) and a driving unit(77) for driving the ice separating rod, an ice transfer unit(50) for transferring ice cubes in the ice maker to the ice bank, and an ice crusher(70) provided on one side of the ice bank to crush ice cubes.

Abstract: A refrigerator is provided to mount an ice discharge element to a door of a refrigerating compartment for a user to withdraw ice easily without bending his lower back much, and prevent leakage of chilled air from an ice bin or introduction of room air into the ice bin to block the decrease of cooling efficiency. A refrigerator includes a refrigerating compartment(3) mounted with a door, a freezing compartment(5) provided at a lower side of the refrigerating compartment, and an ice making chamber(6) provided in the refrigerating compartment to be communicated with the freezing compartment and mounted with a cover(7) for opening or closing the same. An ice bin(30) is mounted in the ice making chamber and has a bottom surface inclined. A blower fan(70) blows the chilled air of the freezing compartment to the auxiliary storing chamber. A control part controls the transmission part in such a manner that the transmission part drives the freezing compartment blower fan at a higher speed and the refrigerating compartment blower fan at a lower speed when the auxiliary storing chamber blower fan is driven than when not driven. A damper(80) is installed at the chilled air outlet for opening and closing the outlet in response to starting and stopping of the auxiliary storing chamber blower fan, respectively, under the control of the control part.

Abstract: A refrigerator is provided to move ice cubes to an ice outlet by a pusher and a cam instead of using a shaft directly, thereby preventing tangling of the ice cubes.
