And a method for regulating the pH of a fluid in the microfluidic device through electrolysis using the same device is provided. The microfluidic device comprises a chamber(105) including a metal(101) which is able to absorb hydrogen gas as a cathode electrode and a metal(103) which has higher standard oxidation potential than that of water and is non-reacting with water as an anode electrode; and is characterized in that gas is not generated in the chamber. In the device, the cathode electrode is Pd, the anode electrode is selected from the group consisting of Cu, Pb, Ag, Cr, Ti, Ni, Zn, and Sn, and the chamber further comprises an ion exchange material. The method for regulating the pH of a fluid comprises the steps of: (a) allowing a solution including ions having higher or lower standard oxidation potential than that of water to be flown in an anode chamber; (b) allowing a solution including ions having lower standard oxidation potential than that of water to be flown in a cathode chamber; and (c) applying electric current to the anode and cathode chambers through the anode and cathode electrodes to cause electrolysis at the anode and cathode chambers and regulate the pH of the solution flown in either the anode chamber or the cathode chamber.
