Abstract: PURPOSE: An optical disk drive is provided to include a control board for controlling a driving unit and being mounted on an interface device of a computer by being separated from the driving unit, thereby realizing miniaturization of a portable computer. CONSTITUTION: On a mounting portion(120), a slim optical disk drive is mounted. On at least one PCMCIA(Personal Computer Memory Card International Association) slot(110), a PCMCIA card is mounted. A driving unit(200) is manufactured in slim type to be mounted on the mounting portion(120). A control board(300) controls the driving unit(200), and is mounted on the PCMCIA slot(110). The driving unit(200) consists of a spindle motor and an optical pickup. The spindle motor and the optical pickup are installed on a tray that slides down a lower case.

Abstract: An actuator of a disc drive having a shock damping device includes an electro-magnet disposed on a cover of the disc drive, a magnetic material disposed on a load beam of the actuator, opposite to the electro-magnet, and a driving control portion controlling a driving of the electro-magnet by detecting an vibration of the load beam towards and away from an optical disc that is caused by an external shock. When the load beam is vibrated by the external vibration or shock to the disc drive, electricity is supplied to the electro-magnet, securing the load beam to the cover until the vibration ceases. CONSTITUTION: A disk tray(110) includes a plane(120) on which a disk is mounted.
