Abstract:
PURPOSE: A composition containing Youngia denticulate extract or compound isolated from the same are provided to induce activation of quinone reductase(QR) and to improve liver function. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing cancer contains Youngia denticulate extract as an active ingredient, which is isolated using water, organic solvent or mixture solvent thereof. An organic solvent is alcohol of C1-C4, acetic acid ethyl, methylene chloride, or chloroform. The Youngia denticulate extract detoxifies carcinogen by enhancing quinone reductase activation. A pharmaceutical composition for preventing cancer contains Youngia denticulate fraction as an active ingredient. The Youngia denticulate fraction is obtained by frequently fractioning Youngia denticulate extract using n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and n-butanol. The pharmaceutical composition for preventing cancer contains a compound of chemical formula 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 as an active ingredient.

A 5-methylsophoraflavanone B isolated from an extract of Sophora flavascens is provided to show inhibitory effect on the activity of aldose reductase causing diabetic complications and prevent obesity by inhibiting differentiation of fat cells, thereby being usefully used for preventing or treating the diabetic complications or the obesity. A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating diabetic complications or obesity comprises an extract of Sophora flavascens or 5-methylsophoraflavanone B isolated therefrom and represented by a formula(1) as an effective ingredient, wherein the extract of Sophora flavascens or the 5-methylsophoraflavanone B is prepared by extracting dried materials of Sophora flavascens roots with C1-4 alcohol to obtain the extract of Sophora flavascens, subjecting the extract to high speed liquid chromatography to isolate the 5-methylsophoraflavanone B and purifying the isolated 5-methylsophoraflavanone B. Further, the C1-4 alcohol is ethanol.

An anti-cancer composition containing tectoridin or aglycone thereof is provided to increase metabolism of carcinogens in cancer cells, inhibit growth of cancer cells, induce no colony formation of cancer cells and reduce expressions of genes associated with cancer cell generation and metastasis, so that the composition is useful for treatment of female cancers. The composition for treating female cancer or disease associated with female hormone contains tectoridin or aglycone thereof which is obtained by (a) extracting Belamcanda chinensis DC. rhizome with an organic solvent, and (b) fractionating the organic solvent extract of Belamcanda chinensis DC. rhizome by subjecting it to silica gel chromatography, wherein the female cancer includes breast cancer, endometrical carcinoma and ovarian cancer, and the disease associated with female hormone includes telangiectasia, osteoporosis and vein thrombosis.
