    Abstract: PURPOSE: An improved structure of an intake manifold for air distributability is provided to improve the performance of an engine and to reduce the amount of exhaust gas by uniformly distributing air into respective cylinders. CONSTITUTION: An intake manifold(1) made of aluminum comprises a surge tank(2) and runners(#1-#4). A throttle body is connected to a right flange(3) of the surge tank. One side(4) of the flange forms a vertical wall steep to the surge tank. On the side, inlets of the runners are connected in upper and lower two rows. The runners are horizontally extended and turned toward cylinders at 90degrees. Outlets(10-13) of the runners are aligned in a line by another flange(9). The flange(9) is connected to an intake port of a cylinder head. As the runners distributing air into the cylinders are connected on the line coaxial to the inflow direction of air into the surge tank, the uniform distribution of air is possible and air flows smoothly. The design of the runners having the same length is easy and the responsiveness of air is improved. Therefore, the engine performance is improved at intermediate and low speeds of an engine. The amount of exhaust gas is reduced with the same air-fuel ratio of the cylinders.
