    Abstract: PURPOSE: A monitoring device of a leakage in an engine and a method thereof are provided to diagnose a leakage monitoring function about a fuel system in a stable condition by satisfying an evaporation gas pressure inside a fuel tank to a set critical value. CONSTITUTION: In supplying power after accessing a self diagnosis device by putting an assembled vehicle in a testing process(S101), starting record data are searched(S102). In detecting a starting of an engine(S103), a starting record counter is increased(S104). A present speed is compared with a set reference speed(S106) by detecting the present speed(S105). An initial starting after the assembling is checked(S107) when the present speed is over the set reference speed. In deciding as the initial starting, the inside of a fuel tank is formed in an atmospheric pressure by opening a fuel inlet cap(S108) and connecting the fuel tank with the atmosphere. Then, a reference pressure condition for diagnosing a leakage monitoring function is formed by controlling the duty of a PCSV(Purse Control Solenoid Valve) in 100%(S109) and flowing canister collected evaporation gas into the engine. The connection between the fuel tank and the atmosphere is isolated(S112) and the PCSV is controlled in 0%(S113) by closing a fuel inlet cap after a certain time(S111). Then, the result is outputted by diagnosing the leakage monitoring function in a normal method(S114). Thereby, the reliability of the leakage monitoring function is realized.

Otherwise, the defect of the O2 sensor is checked(S140). The corresponding control signal of the air fuel ratio is outputted when the O2 sensor is defected(S170). Thereby, the discharge of exhaust gas is reduced at the initial starting time and the normal control of the air fuel ratio is possible when the O2 sensor is defected.
