    Abstract: PURPOSE:To three-dimensionally produce optical waveguides within a photosensitive layer in order to improve the scale of integration of optical integrated circuits. CONSTITUTION:A body 1 which is to be exposed and is formed by providing the surface of a substrate 1a with the photosensitive layer 1b consisting of a photosensitive material, such as photopolymer, which is changed in refractive index of a photosensitive part by photoirradiation and can immobilize this photosensitive part is set on an X-Y-Z stage 2 and a laser beam is condensed to a converging light by a lens system 7. The focal position of this light is moved relative to the photosensitive layer 1b, by which the photosensitive part 1c is formed. An optical waveguide pattern 1d is formed by immobilizing this part.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To achieve speedy operation by means of a simple structure by expressing each logical value of plural binary logic variables by the use of a combination of intensity of currents caused to indivisually flow into two or more places of the active layer of a beam deflecting laser. CONSTITUTION:Each logical value of the plural binary logic variables, which is an input variable, is expressed by a combination of intensity of currents caused to indivisually flow into two or more places of the active layer 13 of the beam deflecting laser 10. In this manner, a superimposed current is caused to flow into two or more places of the active layer 13 of the beam deflecting laser 10 according to a prescribed combination of current values, which meets a logical value of each of the plural binary logic variables; consequently, a direction in which a laser bean is emitted from the beam deflecting laser 10 is changed according to the combination. Thus, based on each laser beam emit ting direction, plural binary logic variables, given as an input, can be easily read by the use of a result operated according to an aimed logical operating expression.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for providing elements with the exception of semiconductor laser diodes and as a result, dispense with peripheral connection circuits by connecting electrodes of different polarities of separated semiconductor laser diodes to each other. CONSTITUTION:As left side diodes are biased in the forward direction and an electric current flows in an active layer 103, laser oscillations take place and its layer 103 acts as a light amplification (generation) region. On the other hand, right side diodes are applied by inverse bias and act as a photodetector. Then a part of laser beams transmitting the active layer of the right side diodes is absorbed to generate a photoelectric current. Its current flows in a direction which decreases the forward direction current of the left side diodes and then, once the laser beams are produced, self-excited pulse oscillations are operated. Such a movement eliminates the need for providing elements with the exception of semiconductor laser diodes and then dispenses with peripheral connection circuits.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To largely improve transient response of a light absorption part and enable generation of a short pulse by shorting or connecting small resistance across a diode of a light absorption part in a tandem electrode type laser device whose electrode is divided into a plurality of parts. CONSTITUTION:A bias voltage V1 is applied to a light amplification part 103, and a bias voltage V2 is applied to a light absorption part 105, and both of them are connected by internal resistance Rp. A diode of the light absorption part 105 is shorted. Actually, the diode has internal resistance, so that the equivalent circuit has internal resistance of the diode R0, stray capacity C of the diode. The value of the internal resistance of the diode is usually very small and is less than 10OMEGA so that the terminal voltage of the junction part of the diode is scarcely changed, even if a photoelectric current flows due to absorption of the light from the light amplification part. Therefore, the absorption coefficient is decreased for a very short time, and during which time laser oscillation occurs to generate a pulse.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce spherical aberration and coma aberration, to remove an air layer and to easily produce the title lens by sandwiching a uniform sphere between two planes so that the sphere is tightly brought into contact with the recessed spherical faces of faces formed between the two planes and correcting the spherical aberration and coma aberration of an optical system based on changes in the refractive indexes of the planes. CONSTITUTION:The recessed spherical holes 4A, 4B are formed on the surfaces of the planes 2A, 2B changing their refractive indexes at least near the surfaces in the thickness direction, the uniform sphere 1 is sandwiched between the two planes 2A, 2B so as to be tightly brought into contact with the recessed spherical faces of the holes and changes in the refractive indexes of the planes 2A, 2B are used as values for correcting the spherical aberration of the optical system and a sine condition. Even if an oblique axis is used, structure having a small aberration and tightly united between spherical lenses with another optical element without forming an air layer can be obtained, so that a device using the spherical lens as its element can be characterized with low loss, high performance and multifunction and tolerance in production or assembling can be loosened.
