Abstract:
An air bag deployment door (10) with a switch (33) to activate a horn, the switch including a thin, flexible optical cable (40) operatively disposed on or within the horn activation area (24) and a sensor responsive to a change in signal strength through the cable for generating an activation signal to energize a horn.
Abstract:
An air bag (12) comprising: only two pieces (10a, b) of joined-together material having a front face (43c), two sides (43a, 43b), a neck (48) and a hollow tether (45).
Abstract:
A method of increasing the shelf life of a sterilant mixture of ethylene oxide and one or more halocarbons when the mixture is in contact with iron oxide on the surface of a storage vessel. Sufficient carbon dioxide is added to the mixture to reduce the reactivity of the iron oxide for converting ethylene oxide to reaction products of ethylene oxide. In an alternate embodiment, a hollow carbon steel vessel which holds a mixture of ethylene oxide and a halocarbon as a sterilizing gas has its inside surface passivated by forming a reaction product of iron oxide and carbon dioxide.
Abstract:
Printed circuit boards comprise laminates, e.g. CEM-3 laminates, having insulating substrates which include polymeric particles, particularly core-shell particles having an average diameter of about 0.05 to 30 mu m, which reduce the dielectric constant and dissipation factor of such laminates. Comparative Tracking Index (CTI) is significantly improved.
Abstract:
The invention relates to novel cinnamamides, a process for their manufacture and their use as UV absorbers. The cinnamamides of the invention may be used as UV absorbers in a variety of engineered resins such as polyamides (especially nylon 6 and 6,6), polycarbonates, polyacetals, polysulfones, polyimides, polyaryletherketones, and polyesters, (especially PET and PBT), as well as, other polymers such as polyvinylchloride and polyolefins (polyethylenes and polypropylenes).
Abstract:
This invention relates to novel room temperature coalescable aqueous fluoropolymer dispersions and a process for their manufacture. These dispersions may be used in a variety of applications including high temperature thermoplastic coatings, polishes, room temperature formable paints and coatings, extrudable or injection moldable resins, and adhesives.
Abstract:
This invention relates to hydroflurorocarbons useful in refrigeration and heat pump applications. The invention provides hydrofluorocarbons selected from the group of 1,1,2,3,3-pentafluoropropane, 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluoropropane, 1,1,1,2,3-pentafluoropropane, and mixtures thereof that are environmentally suitable replacements for chlorofluorocarbons in refrigeration applications such as centrifugal chillers.
Abstract:
In an air traffic advisory system for determining the bearing of an intruder aircraft relative to a protected aircraft, the preferred apparatus determines a corrected bearing to compensate for bearing errors caused by intruder signal reflections. More particularly, the preferred apparatus uses a hybrid combiner (22) to produce a sum, delta one and delta two signals, and determines the phase relationship between the sum signal and each of the delta signals, the two phase relationships being subject to at least partially offsetting errors due to intruder signal reflections. The apparatus determines an uncorrected intruder bearing from each phase relationship and then averages the uncorrected bearings to produce a corrected intruder bearing.
Abstract:
An energy absorbing seat belt retractor comprising: a frame (22); a spool (24) rotatably mounted relative to the frame including a lock wheel (71) having a plurality of lock teeth associated therewith and adapted to receive a seat belt thereabout; a lock pawl (77) for engaging the spool upon sensing a one of a vehicle deceleration and seat belt extraction above certain determinable levels; and movable nut (90) located in the spool and for prohibiting relative movement between the lock wheel and spool below a threshold input force level generated in part by occupant load on the seat belt and for generating a controlled energy dissipating reaction force on the seat belt after the input force exceeds the threshold level to permit a controlled rotation of the spool and the controlled pay-out of the seat belt from the spool during a first and subsequent accidents.
