The novel features are that (a) oxidn. is carreid out in a tubular reactor or tube aggregate with tube(s) having an inside dia. of 10-50 mm, (b) the tube(s) is charged with (III) in the form of granular inert material coated with 0.1-20 wt.% Cu, Ag and/or Au; and (c) the ratio of the dia. of the (III) granules to the inside dia. of the tube is 1:10-5.
