Abstract: N,N,N',N'-Tetracyanomethyl-1,3-diaminopropane is prepared by a reaction of 1,3-diaminopropane and formaldehyde and a compound giving cyanide ions in an aqueous medium, a) by reacting 1,3-diaminopropane, formaldehyde and the compound giving cyanide ions first in the weakly acidic range and at a temperature of 20-60@C to give N,N'-dicyanomethyl-1,3-diaminopropane and b) completing the cyanomethylation to give the tetracyanomethyl compound in the strongly acidic range at a temperature of 40-80@C.

Abstract: 1,2-Butylene oxide adducts (I) of alcohols (II) is produced by reacting (II) with 1,2-butylene oxide (III) in the presence of an alkali, using a (III):(II) molar ratio of more than 20:1. The reaction is effected at 120-160 (esp. 140-150) deg.C and 5-30 bar in the presence of 0.01-1 (esp. 0.05-0.5)wt.% KOH. The (III):(II) molar ratio is 20-500:1.

(same or different)). Component (a) is specifically derived from an alcohol of formula R(OH)n, where n = 1-4 and R = 1-20C alkane, by reaction with butylene oxide or a combination of propylene oxide and butylene oxide in a ratio of 5:95 to 95:5. The (a):(b) wt. ratio is 5:1 to 1:3. The fuels contain 0.01-0.3 wt.% (a) + (b).

Abstract: In electroless Cu plating using an aq.-alkaline bath contg. a Cu salt, a reducing agent and a complex-former, the novelty is that the complex-former is isoserine-N,N-diacetic acid of formula (HOOC-CH2)2N-CH2-CHOH-COOH (I) or an alkali metal- or ammonium-salt of (I). The concn. of (I) is typically 0.02-0.2 mol/l, a suitable bath compsn. comprising: CuSO4.5H2O 5-20 g/l; NaOH 12-50 g/l; HCHO 1-12 g/l; (I) 5-40 g/l; stabiliser 0.1-5 mg/l; surfactant 0.01-0.5 g/l; wafer to 1l. USE/ADVANTAGE - Circuit boards (e.g. of phenolic resin/paper construction), ceramics and a wide range of plastics can be Cu-plated. (I) gives a bath of higher stability than prior-art complex-formers and is also more readily biologically degraded, thus reducing environmental hazards.

Abstract: Preparation of the trisodium salt of isoserine-N,N-diacetic acid (I) by reaction of acrylonitrile with aqueous hydrogen peroxide to give glycidamide (II) and further reaction of II with the disodium salt of iminodiacetic acid (III) to give I, by carrying out the process continuously and, in it, successively a) reacting together acrylonitrile and aqueous hydrogen peroxide at pH 7-8 and 30-60 DEG C, b) removing unreacted acrylonitrile by distillation, c) passing the reaction mixture over a solid hydrogen peroxide-decomposing catalyst, d) reacting the aqueous solution of II, obtained in this way, with III at pH 7-9 and 40-90 DEG C, e) reacting the resulting solution with a basic sodium compound at pH 9-14 and 60-95 DEG C, f) removing the ammonia which is produced by distillation and g) if desired, working up the aqueous solution of I, obtained in this way, in a manner known per se to give solid I.
