    Abstract: Solutions of molecular oxygen in liquid hydrocarbons are prepared by bringing a liquid hydrocarbon into contact with molecular oxygen under superatmospheric pressure in a vertical absorption zone, by a process in which (a) a layer of water is maintained at the lower end of the absorption zone, (b) molecular oxygen is passed into the layer of water, (c) a liquid hydrocarbon is fed in above the layer of water, (d) the finely divided molecular oxygen rising from the layer of water is passed upward together with the liquid hydrocarbon at from 0 DEG to 50 DEG C., with thorough mixing in the absorption zone, with the proviso that no cohesive gas phase is formed, and (e) the solution of molecular oxygen in the liquid hydrocarbon is discharged in the upper part of the absorption zone.

    Abstract: Polyamides are moulded by polymerizing lactams in the presence of alkaline catalysts and activators in a mould in which the pressure is sub-atmospheric, preferably 5 to 50 mm.Hg. above the boiling pressure of the lactam to be polymerized. In an example 8 parts of bis-(caprolactam-N-carboxylic acid)-hexamethylene-diamide (1,6) is dissolved in 92 parts of caprolactam at 80 DEG C., and 67 parts of caprolactam is melted with 33 parts of the reaction product of 3 parts of potassium with 97 parts of caprolactam and heated to 80 DEG C. The two melts are then mixed and fed into a mould at 85 DEG C. and a pressure of 10 mm.Hg. Numerous examples of catalysts and activators suitable for the process are given, specified lactams being pyrrolidone, piperidone, caprolactam, enantholactam, caprylolactam, capriclactam, laurolactam, C-methyl-e -caprolactam and dilactams.
