    Abstract: New thiophene azo dyestuffs are of formula (I): X = COOH, CN, NO2, Cl, Br, 1-10C alkanoyl, (substd.) benzoyl, 1-4C alkylsulphonyl, (substd.) phenylsulphonyl, -COOR1 or -CON(R1)(R2); R1 and R2 independently = (substd.) 1-12C alkyl, 5-7C cycloalkyl, 3-4C alkenylor (substd.) phenyl and R2 may also = H; or R1 + R2 + N = a 5-6-membered satd. heterocycle; Y = COOH, CN, -COOR1 or -CON(R1)(R2); or Y + X = -CO-N(R2)-CO- or -CO-N(R3)-N(R4)-CO-; R3 and R4 independently = H, (substd.) 1-12C alkyl, 5-7C cycloalkyl or (substd.) phenyl; Z = COOH, 1-10C alkanoyl, (substd.) benzoyl, 1-4C alkylsulphonyl, (substd.) phenylsulphonyl, -COOR1 or -CON(R1)(R2); K = the radical of a coupling component; provided that X,Y and Z not all = CN or -COOR1. (I) can be prepd. (not claimed) by reacting diazonium salts of 2-aminothiophenes with a coupling component HK in the usual way.
