    Abstract: Lustre pigments based on coated, plateletlike, silicatic substrates wherein the coating comprises a layer consisting essentially of carbon and aluminium oxide, chromium oxide, serium oxide, zirconium oxide and/or antimony oxide are obtainable by applying carbon-containing compounds of the metals aluminium, chromium, serium, zirconium, antimony or mixtures of these compounds and, if desired, further carbon-containing compounds of the empirical formula (CH2O)n, in which n is from 1 to 6 for one monomer unit, to the substrate particles and then thermally decomposing the carbon-containing compounds on the surface of the substrate particles under oxygen-excluding conditions.

    Abstract: The material is obtainable by a) reacting an aqueous dispersion of waterglass and a pigment with a strong acid and/or waterglass with a pigment-containing strong acid to give a pigment-containing silica hydrogel, the pigment being characterised in that it scatters, absorbs or reflects infrared radiation of wavelength 3 - 10 mu m, b) substantially freeing the pigment-containing silica hydrogel thus obtained from ionic constituents by washing out with water, c) displacing the water present in the hydrogel by means of a low- boiling liquid which is inert to the pigment-containing silica gel, d) heating the liquid-containing silica gel thus obtained with complete covering with the liquid to supercritical conditions and e) subsequently removing the liquid from the solid by flash evaporation at supercritical temperature.

    Abstract: Thermostable bismuth vanadate/molybdate pigments are prepared by precipitating onto a pigment, obtained by calcination, of the formula Bi VO4.Bi2Mo O6 where n is 0.2-2.5, in aqueous suspension at 70 DEG -100 DEG C. within the pH range from 4 to 9.5 a first SiO2-containing layer using an alkali metal silicate solution of a magnesium hexafluorosilicate solution, maintaining the suspension at 70 DEG -100 DEG C. for not less than 1 hour, producing a thick coating on the precoated pigment by adding further alkali metal silicate solution, magnesium hexafluorosilicate solution or a mixture of the two within the pH range from 4 to 9.5, and finally depositing wax on the SiO2-containing layer by means of a waxing emulsion/dispersion, the products showing, compared with the starting pigment, an appreciably improved thermal stability in plastics.
