Abstract: Polymers (I) contain gps. of formula (-Ar-(CH2)x-CH=CH-)-, where x is 0 or 1; and Ar is an aromatic system. (I) are prepd. by the Wittig reaction from (a) an aromatic cpd. with an alkyl halide gp. and an aldehyde gp., or with 2 alkyl halide gps. and (b) an aromatic cpd. with 2 CHO gps. T he halogen is pref. Cl or Br. The aromatic system may be mono- or poly-cyclic; the aromatic rings are pref. linked in the p-position. The Wittig reaction is at 0-100 deg. C, in a solvent, pref. toluene, cyclohexane or methanol, in presence of triphenylphosphine, and under a protective atmos., esp. N2 or Ar. Use of (I) for prodn. of electrically conducting systems is claimed. These systems ("n-conductors") can be given antistatic synthetic material finishes, for prodn. of solar cells, for conversion and fixation of radiation, and for prodn. of electrical and magnetic switches. (I) are easily processed.

Abstract: Stable electrically conductive polymers having conductivities greater than 10-2 S/cm are prepared by heating p-doped polyacetylenes, in the absence of oxygen and moisture, for from 0.1 to 3 hours, preferably from 0.5 to 1.0 hour, at from 500 DEG to 1,100 DEG C., preferably from 550 DEG to 850 DEG C. The electrically conductive polymers obtained can be used in the electrical industry for the production of solar cells, for the utilization and fixing of radiation, for the production of electrical and magnetic switches and stores, and for the antistatic treatment of plastics.
