    Abstract: 3 - Aminoanthraquinone - 2: 1(N) - 11: 21(N)-benzacridones of the formula of the formula or a Bz-halo-derivative thereof are made by heating the corresponding 3-halo-anthraquinone - benzacridone or a Bz - halo - derivative thereof with urea in an inert organic diluent. 3 - Chloro - 51 - bromo - anthraquinone - benzacridone is made by brominating 3-chloroanthraquinone-benzacridone with bromine at 160 DEG C. 3 : 31 : 51 - Trichloroanthraquinone - benzacridone is made by heating 3-chloro-anthraquinone-benzacridone with thionyl chloride in trichlorobenzene.     Abstract: Benzanthroneacridone vat dyes are produced by heating the dye of formula at 50-150 DEG C. in a melt which consists essentially of aluminium chloride and urea, optionally melamine and halogenating agents may be present in the melt. Halogenating agents specified are chlorine, bromine, sulfuryl chloride, thionyl chloride, chlorosulphonic acid sulphur monochloride and mixtures thereof, alternatively oxidizing agents (nitrobenzene, sodium nitrobenzene sulphonate sodium chlorate) which have a halogenating action in conjunction with aluminium chloride may be used. The dyes produced contain varying amounts of halogen and give khaki to olive shades.
