Abstract: The coating compsn. based on a polymeric binder (I), which can be diluted with water, contains 0.1-25, pref. 0.5-15 wt.%, w.r.t. (I) of an ester diol (II) of the formula HOCH2-CR1R2-CH2-O-CO-CR3R4-CH2OH (in which R1-4 independently are 1-8C alkyl gps.). (I) pref. is an acrylic ester copolymer contg. COOH gps. and neutralized with an amine. Used for the prodn. of coatings by electrophoretic deposition on metals. The gloss retention as the bath ages is good and there is no need to add solvents or flow aids later. There is almost no environmental pollution, as (II) are incorporated in the film. (II) also improve the flow of the film without impairing the dielectric strength and spread.
