Abstract: Primer used in coating solid substrates with liquid, pasty or powdered coating agents consists of a crosslinked adhesive (I) with a Tg of -60 to 0 deg.C and a peel strength against V2A steel of min. 0.025 N/cm. (I) pref. is an acrylate (co)polymer, polyol crosslinked with polyisocyanates or (co)polyester crosslinked with melamine, urea, benzoguanamine or epoxide resins or esp. polyisocyanates. The primer is esp. for use in coating glass with PVC pastes and then if necessary with 2-component top coat lacquers based on polyurethanes. It adheres well to various solid substrates and to the coatings applied later.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of polymerizable, primarily linear thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers with acrylate side groups comprising reacting an organic polyisocyanate with a mixture of (a) an acrylate diol having a molecular weight of 146 to 3000, (b) an organic polyhydroxyl compound other than those of paragraph (a) having a molecular weight between 400 and 5000, and (c) a chain extender selected from the group consisting of diols, diamines, aminoalcohols, and triols, having molecular weights between 61 and 400, water, and mixtures thereof wherein the ratio of isocyanate to active hydrogen containing groups is from 0.8:1 to 1.2:1 and wherein 1.4 to 1.8 moles of organic polyisocyante, 0 to 15 moles of component (c) and 0.3 to 6 moles of component (a) are used per mole of component (b). The polymerizable polyurethane elastomers may be used for the manufacture of molded parts, laminates, adhesives, coatings, magnetic tapes, and other articles.

Abstract: Magnetic recording media comprising a non-magnetic base and, applied thereto, one or more magnetizable layers based on an anisotropic magnetic material finely dispersed in an organic binder containing an ionomeric polyurethane elastomer, wherein the binder used is a substantially aqueous polyurethane dispersion prepared from a polyurethane solution which has been obtained by reacting a polyisocyanate with an organic polyhydroxy compound in the presence of an organic solvent that is inert to isocyanate groups.

Abstract: 1519059 Photo-crosslinkable polyurethane composition BASF AG 12 Sept 1975 [13 Sept 1974] 37561/75 Heading C3V A photo-crosslinkable composition comprises a photoinitiator and a mixture of the following materials in the proportions:-(A) from 40 to 80% by weight of an olefinically unsaturated isocyanate group-free polyurethane which has a molecular weight of from 400 to 10,000 and which has been manufactured by reaction of (A1) a polyester having a hydroxyl number of 100 to 300 and derived from a C2 to C8-saturated polyhydric aliphatic alcohol and a C4 to C8- saturated dicarboxylic acid, or an ester forming derivative of such dicarboxylic acid, at least 50 mole per cent of such polyester-forming materials being saturated aliphatic compounds with (A2) a C6 to C36-polyisocyanate and (A3) a monoacrylate or monomethacrylate of a C2 to C10- aliphatic diol and (B) from 60 to 20% by weight of a C6 to C8-N-vinyl lactam-monomer or a mixture of at least 20% by weight thereof with at least one comonomer, or with a reaction product prepared from (A2) and (A3). Examples are given in which (a) an adipic acid/phthalicanhydride/1,2 -propylene glycol/1,1,1-trimethylolpropane polyester is reacted with hexamethylene diisocyanate and 2-hydroxypropyl acrylate, the product being mixed with N- vinylpyrrolidone and benzoin methyl ether, applied to a substrate and exposed image-wise to UV light to form a relief printing plate; (b) as (a) except that a monomer mixture (B) of N - vinylpyrrolidone, 1 - hydroxypropyl acrylate, 2 - hydroxypropyl acrylate and acrylamide is used; (c) a polyester as in (a) is reacted with isophorone diisocyanate, 2-hydroxypropyl acrylate and, optionally, 1 - hydroxypropyl acrylate, mixed with N-vinylpyrrolidone or a mixture thereof with 2-hydroxypropylacrylate and acrylamide, and used as in (a), using benzoin isopropyl, or methyl ether as initiator.
