Abstract: The changing mechanism is used for flexible recording discs each contained ina rectangular sleeve, the play-back unit for the discs having means for lowering the disc onto a rotatable turntable. The recording disc can be moved almost orthogonal to the plane of movement of the disc lowering device by a transport mechanism moving forwards and backwards. An operating mechanism is positioned between the lowering device and the transport mechanism, such that the drive means for rotating the turntable is operated in dependence on the position of the disc lowering device and the position of the transport mechanism. A separate motor may be provided for the disc lowering device and be controlled in conjunction with the drive motor for the turntable.

Layer (1) possesses an average surface roughness (Rz) of 0.05-0.20 mu m, and a max. point roughness (Rt) of is not >200 of the average surface roughness. Gives video signals having a low grass noise and a satisfactory mitte value. Percentage of reject carriers is greatly reduced.

Abstract: The magnetic dlianing device for tapes uses a special magnetic head (5) with a flat yoke (6) and two coils (7a, 7b). The pole pieces are separated by a small air gap (8), and together form a convex curved surface along which the tape is drawn. On either side of the magnet are small ports leading to the surface of the tape associated with cut-out portions leading to a vacuum suction device which has the effect of removing free particles form the surface of the tape. The separation of the contact surfaces from the tape is only about 20 microns.

The layers of phases A and B pref. are 100-2000 angstrom and 40-2000 angstrom thick respectively and a no. of alternating layers can be used. The layer next to the substrate can contain either phse A or phase B. The matls. have an asymmetrical hysteresis loop, due to the effect of exchange anisotropy, and the Neel temp. can be controlled within wide limits by the compsn.

Abstract: Magnetic materials which essentially consist of a phase A with a ferromagnetic spin system and a phase B with an anti-ferromagnetic spin system, phases A and B interacting by exchange coupling, and the manufacture of such materials. The materials consist essentially of two-phase magnetic single-domain particles, with the alloy [CoxNi1-x] as the ferromagnetic phase A and its oxidized form [(CoO)x(NiO)1-x] as the anti-ferromagnetic phase B, with values of x of 0.04 to 0.96. They are manufactured by surface oxidation of a pigment layer, which at least covers the surface but may extend deeper, having the composition of phase A, to form an oxide layer, at least 40 A thick, of the phase B, followed by heating in an inert gas atmosphere, or by reduction of a corresponding layer of phase B to a layer of phase A. Magnetic single-domain particles of this composition have a Neel temperature which varies with X. As a result, materials are obtained which have an asymmetrical hysteresis loop, attributable to exchange anisotropy, at temperatures which can be varied within wide limits in accordance with the intended use of the material.
