Abstract: An automatic transfer mechanism allows components on a linear conveyor to be extracted singly and loaded onto a work station on a rotary table. The transfer unit consists of three pairs of arms (3) located equidistant from a central shaft. A component (4) is transferred from the linear conveyor each time the transfer unit rotates through 120 degrees. Each pair of arms has fixed location jaws at the top and a pair of moving jaws at the bottom. In operation the moving faws are closed under the action of a roller follower operating against a cam track. The cam ensures opening only when the component is located directly over the rotary table workstation.
