Abstract: A catheter suitable for use in performing peritoneal dialysis. The catheter is a dual lumen catheter which allows for continuous flow peritoneal dialysis. Dialysate flows through the catheter into the patient via one lumen and simultaneously flows through the catheter out of the patient via the second lumen. The dual lumen dialysis catheter has a flexible tube which has an implantable portion extending from an external patient portion. Both of the lumens have openings in the external patient portion for connecting to a supply and drain of dialysate, respectively. The implantable portion has a preformed curved segment which has an outlet for the first lumen to flow dialysate into the patient's peritoneal cavity. The implantable portion has an opening for the second lumen at the distal end to flow dialysate out of the peritoneal cavity and removal from the patient. The catheter facilitates mixing of fresh and spent dialysate inside the pentoneal cavity by inflowing fresh dialysate into the cavity at a location substantially separated from the cavity outflow location, and by directing the inflow of dialysate into the cavity opposite the cavity outflow location.

Abstract: A fluid delivery system having a closed-loop control process for delivering a medical fluid to a patient. A fluid infusion system includes a pump for delivering a fluid to a patient via an administration tube. A flow sensor associated with the administration tube provides an indication of the actual flow rate of fluid in the administration tube. Such a flow sensor may comprise a positive displacement flow sensor constructed using micro-fabrication and/or micro-molding techniques. A reader reads the actual flow rate signal and provides an indication to a controller for controlling the pump. The flow rate information can also be used for providing status information, such as the existence of a blockage in the fluid delivery system.

Abstract: A method and system for detecting an inclusion within an infusion system. The method includes monitoring an output signal of a flowrate sensor as fluid flows through an infusion system. The output signal is then converted with a noise reduction filter to obtain a filtered output signal. The filtered output signal is compared to a threshold value and an alarm is activated if the filtered output signal falls below a desired threshold, thereby indicating an occlusion within the infusion system.

Abstract: A laparoscopic spray device for selectively applying a multiple component material dispensed from a multiple component material applicator to a surgical site in vivo is disclosed. The device comprises an interface member capable of engaging a multiple component applicator, a body having at least two lumens therein, and a detachable spray tip in fluid communication with the body. The detachable spray tip includes a mixing chamber having at least one flexible mixing member positioned therein which is capable of creating a turbulent flow within a mixing chamber. In addition, the at least one mixing member prevents a back flow of material from the mixing chamber to the at least two lumens. The present invention is particularly useful in remotely applying multiple component tissue adhesives to an internal incision.
